I think I am going to get one of these (despite the high price).

Has anyone had any dealing with Amazon regarding faulty Kindles purchased in the US once you are in a different country?

E.g. If I order the US version and get someone to bring it over, will Amazon likely cover return shipping from NZ if something goes wrong with it?

Yes. I bought all my kindles in the USA and brought them back here. I've had 2 faults across 8 devices. One I was in the USA for, and they Fedex'd me a replacement overnight, the second they sent me a replacement to NZ and didn't ask for the old one back.

I believe it has a lot to do with your volumes, as my FIL had a similar thing and they asked him for a US shipping address.

I've got friends in the US in July, they are bringing me back my one.

Thanks for that. What do you mean by volumes, just how much you buy from Amazon?

Maybe I'm being an idiot, but looking at Amazon is the Oasis with the black cover the only one they offer for international shipping?

Yay, got my Kindle Oasis today! I'd seen the pictures and knew the dimensions, but it's a whole other thing when you see and hold it - this thing is really small, thin, and light.

They are probably overpriced, but next to my gen 1 Paperwhite it is the hands down winner. Proper page turn buttons are great, and I love how quick and easy it is to remove the magnetic cover (holding it with the cover on is fine, but is definitely most comfortable without the cover).

I haven't had a chance to have a really good play yet, but the only (very small) negative I can see so far is that there is one extra tap required to adjust the screen brightness than on my Paperwhite. This is obviously a software design choice, so if enough people don't like it it could easily change anyway I guess.

If it has not changed in the last few years, shipping to Australia is another option, since their limit is (was?) 1000AUD vs 400NZ here.

@paul1977 could you describe the physical page turn buttons? Are they hard plastic? Do they "click" when you press them? Is there a lot of travel in the pressing of the buttons?

Hard plastic and slighty raised with a tactile and audible click. Not a massive amount of travel, but I would think accidental presses would be unlikely.

However, it still retains the tap areas on the screen for page turns as well and there seems to be no setting to disable it. A quick Google shows people are submitting this as a feature request to Amazon to have an option to disable screen initiated page turns. I am going to do this as well and I suggest you do too (the more people the better).

When I say audible, I certainly don't mean "loud" - about the same as clicking the home button on an iPhone. Unless you are a speed reader and turn the page every few seconds I don't think anyone around you would find it annoying.

Hmm well I read next to my wife, but hopefully her snoring drowns out the noise. I do read pretty quickly, so I'd expect to be page turning every 10-15 seconds or maybe 20.
