Hi, Just need some guidance or direction regarding if we can have 110/120V dedicated wiring socket in NZ homes ?

I bought a device from US and using a 2000W stepdown transformer and its working perfectly fine.

Issue is - Transformer makes humming noise 24/7 so I was thinking if I can put that transformer in garage or next to power distribution and have separate switch/breaker and from there a 110/120V wire terminates to wall socket ?

So transformer can make humming sound in garage and we can have dedicated 110/120V socket in room with device plugged in.

Any thoughts or ideas or can do or cant do ?

Any expert electricians who can guide or help, will really appreciate.

Thanks everyone, appreciate all your ideas and feedback.

Can something like below be done ? if we keep this wiring isolated from existing house wiring ? by only making it operational when transformer is working.

Idea 1 - Power Transformer from wall socket in garage > Install Input socket running from garage to room outlet - Totally separate from house wiring.

It will only work once transfer output in plugged into new wall socket.

NZ wall sockets will work on both sides as they have NZ/AU Plug type.

You aren’t totally seperate from the house wiring- you are connected through the transformer.

I believe as soon as you have fixed wiring you are subject to the fixed wiring regs.

Unless the device you have bought is worth several thousand dollars it’d probably be cheaper to cut your losses and buy a device that is NZ compliant.

... like is used on a heated towel rail ...

I'd still like to know what the OP's critical appliance at 110V actually is, is it a heated towel rail?

We have a property that is dual wired.
OG owner built it as he was ex USA and wanted to keep his coffee grinder…
It’s spent the last ten years with the transformer off at the board.
