Wyvern: Buying a 5s from the Apple Australia site and getting a mate to ship it here is an option right? i.e. the iphones are sold unlocked?

iPhone warranties used to be country specific too - not sure if that is still the case though.

I'm thinking about getting a 5S as my iPhone 4 is starting to get a bit sluggish and prone to crashing, and as I'll be in the States during October/November, this seems like a good chance to get my hands on the new model. A couple of questions though:
1. What's the deal with support if bought in another country? I know local retailers won't be any help, so what would be the situation?
2. I'm guessing it will cost about the same as the current iPhone 5 - $750USD (Apple online store, unlocked). Would this include sales tax, and if it doesn't, I'm guessing I'll be hit with GST when I come back to NZ?
3. Any other fishhooks I need to be aware of?

rm79: So any idea from when iphone 5s and cheap(C) are going on sale in NZ and what's the price for an unlocked one.

Rahul

5c is cheap? My as$ hole lol.. in other countries, the price for the 5c is approx over 6-700 dollars (NZ)! And I really can't see it being any cheaper when it is here in NZ!

US$549 for the 16GB 5c. That's about NZ$680 at current exchange rates, before you factor in import costs, taxes, and the HahaYou'reInNZ surcharge. Wouldn't be surprised to see it at something like $749 here.

You have not added enough to even cover GST let alone all the other thing you mention.

joker97: million dollar question: what's the difference to the average consumer between iphone 5 and iphone 5s?

The difference is you won't be able to buy a new iPhone 5 soon. :P (Only 5S, 5C and 4S)

-Aidan

UPDATE: I'd expect the price of the 5C to be $800-$1000 NZD (bought from NZ), and the 5S to be $1050-$1200 NZD depending what store you go to.

Either way the 5c should be come in cheaper than a 5 is currently yet it's functionally the same, so I suppose you could argue that it is cheap lol

I imagine the 5c will be a huge success with the kids and mums dads who couldn't care less for technology who will see it as the same but cheaper than a 5s

Oh well, here's hoping the Telco's do some killer deals upon release to ease the pain for those keen

Who would have thought that the iphone 5 would die before the iphone 4S?

Apple have said that they are discontinuing the 5, and only having the 5S, 5C and 4S on offer as "new" phones direct from Apple. Of course it'll take a while for shops to sell all of their iPhones 5's, but still. Eventually the iPhone 5 will be no longer available to buy new.

Probably because the 5 would cannibalize the 5c sales, as they are essentially the same thing, apart from the 5c having a cheap plastic back. If you can buy the 5 for the same price as the 5c, it is probably a good buy. I am guessing that the iphone 5 and 5c will be supported for about the same period of time seeing they largely have the same internal hardware to the same specs, but with apple anything is possible, eg the ipad mini and ipad 2 have largely the same specs, but the ipad2 didn't get siri. I am just wondering how many here would actually buy the iphone 5c over the iphone 5s, which looks so much better and doesn't make you look cheap?

Such a shame you won't actually notice anything. It's amazing how Apple con people into buying their products...
