I have ordered one from a mate in the states and he is going to ship it straight to me. The site said he should have it in approx 2 weeks. I refuse to pay $300 plus I have seen them from here.
Plus the american exchange rate is good at the moment.

What is the advantage of the TomTom car kit over say a normal car cradle, like the basic one I got from hands-free.co.nz. (about $60 I think) Does it just offer integral charging. Or does it also offer audio eg wired audio to your stereo.

It has integrated charging (though the cigarette lighter, AFAIK), a built-in speaker and microphone, another GPS receiver to augment the iPhone's GPS radio, and an Aux Out to allow you to plug it into your car stereo.

so its pretty full featured. The easy charging, and built-in speaker and microphone (if it works well with background noise in a car) - I'd pay for ... maybe NZ$150 max.

As of Friday, Apple Stores in Australia have begun selling it. A friend of mine bought one at the Apple Store in Sydney for $159.95 AUD

Just why isn't it for sale here yet?

Finally got my carkit. I am very impressed with it. I love the fact that I can charge the iphone, Listen to music and have the gps going at the same time. If a call comes in I just hit answer and start talking. It cost me approx $180nz all up but I am very happy with it.

Awesome! It doesn't list a date it will be available though, or have a way to add one to a shopping cart... but at least we know it's coming!

Harvey Normans have it listed on their systems, no availability date yet. I know because I asked on Friday at my local branch if they would be selling it. The sales person confirmed they would be when they looked it up on the stock management system for $199.00.
