I'd say it'll be available when HN etc are selling them...

Useful response that...

No I've only had the one backorder notice from DSE and that was on the day that I ordered it (and gave no definite date). Was assured that when stock came in that online orders would be first priority over shipments to stores so that's something!

I've been considering getting one of these for a while but my only concern is how likely it would be for the kit to work with the next release of the iPhone. If Apple happen to change the size of the phone I guess it potentially means that the kit would be useless because the phone wouldn't fit in it, and I'm the kind of person who will buy a new version of the phone regardless! I could handle paying for new cases and so on, but this is a bit of an investment.

You'll be reasonably safe the form factor won't change. If anything it'll probably only get a bit thinner.

hey is this car kit legal to use in new zealand? look at this faq

http://iphone.tomtom.com/en-nz/faq.html

What happens when the TomTom app is working and I receive a phone call?

When you have your iPhone docked in the TomTom car kit, you can choose to accept or reject a call with a simple tap. And when you end your call, the TomTom app will automatically restart so you can continue navigating to your destination.

Are we allowed to 'tap' on the iPhone while driving in new zealand? Does this car kit automatically answer without a tap?

Yes it is legal here. Here is an excerpt from the Road User Amendment Rule 2009:

A driver may, while driving a vehicle, use a mobile phone to make, receive, or terminate a telephone call if— “(a)    the phone is secured in a mounting fixed to the vehicle;
and “(b) the driver manipulates the phone infrequently and briefly

So in other words tapping that green button to answer the call is 100% legal.
