nickt: So how much actual laser power is used in these fibre connections ? You could measure that in metric laser canons, but mW would likely be more useful!
The Power readings for UFB fibre signaling is measured in dBM and is usealy in the range -4 to -20
Ah, OK. So less than 0.5mW and probably diverging fairly fast coming out of the fibre, so intensity will be relatively low. If it was visible light the eye's blink reflex would protect against accidental damage, but it's infrared so it's invisible. "Don't look down the fibre" makes great sense.
