ConfusedAndDazed:

Hoping this works for me... I'm new to 2Deg and have been struggling all week to connect an X55 router to the 2Deg network. Their technician mentioned Tagging shouldn't be active for BYO modems, but said my tagging was active... will try this method tonight... fingers crossed.

Let us know how you get on, I feel your pain about the setup of a BYO modem with two deg, especially since they said I would have to do anything. Curious if this same issue effects everyone who decides on a BYO modem with 2deg.

What the tech is saying, and you are misinterpreting, is that a retail router out of the box has no tag set by default. The connection itself as provisioned by the LFC for 2Degrees has a vlan tag set.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

As I keep saying the vlan tag is to do with how the connection is provisioned by the LFC. So, no matter what router is being used, if the connection is tagged, then the router needs also to have the WAN interface tagged. That simple.

No go unfortunately, called them again and after another hour on the phone with their tech team, went through step by step, all settings were correct, PON is active, Lan connection is correct and flashing away, VLAN 10, Priority 0, Dynamic IP, etc etc. still cannot get an IP address from ISP apparently. Been at it for over a week and have tried multiple routers. Only other thing I can think of is they only accept certain MAC addresses? They've basically said i need their $5 a month router, so they're sending one out... I'll copy the MAC address of that one first, and then see what settings theirs has...

I feel your pain, I had the exact same issue, finally got it resolved by enabling the vlan tag during set up, waiting for the connection test to fail, then disabling the vlan (as mentioned above). I had a red light on the deco after the connection test failed, then when I disabled the vlan it went green and started working fine. Been to scared to touch it since.

I have a Deco X20, connected to Slingshot. I also faced similar pains. The setup that works / working for me, with a direct connection to the Chorus box:

  • Operation Mode: Wi-Fi Router
  • IPTV/VLAN: Disabled
  • Mac Clone: Disabled
  • DDNS: Disabled
  • Internet Type: IPv4
  • Internet Connection Type: Dynamic IP
  • DNS Address: Auto

Not going to lie, I nearly became religious in my attempt to get it working. But now that it does, it sings along fine.

Make sure to not set QoS until you get 500/100, otherwise you'll be wondering why speed tests are showing 300/100 but Chorus say you have 500 down.

Curious if you had to have the VLAN enabled during the setup and then disable it after to get the internet working?

Good question I can't recall now but I didn't do anything intentionally. I was toggling various combinations to get this working so maybe unintentionally

Still no connection lol! Apparently it was something at their end - or at least that's what the last tech guys said when the Router supplied by 2Degrees also didn't connect! over two weeks now... "how many techs does it take to connect fibre with 2Degrees? - so far 7... and counting"

Id be asking for my first month free with that hassle, it will be interesting to hear the settings on the 2deg router, particularly the vlan.
