Been over a week for me youtube is slow and twitchtv at night has gone all laggy again

I am experiencing really slow internet speeds. I checked my router and my downstream speed reports 3611 Kbps. A speedtest gives a similar result of 3.14Mbps download speed:

I am on the Naked Unlimted plan and up until the last few weeks it has been blazingly fast... not sure what happened. I live in a central city apartment on Lambton Quay in Wellington. Why would my downstream be so low now?

Earlier this month we changed our plan to the 150GB cap, but it seems now (from your website) that the 150GB and 250GB plans are no longer on offer, will our plan change go through? If not, can we change back to the unlimited plan without signing a new 24 month contract?

Also in the same boat, has been slow the last 3 weeks, router says

Downstream Rate:12787 kbpsUpstream Rate:900 kbps
It may be peak time but this is dead slow.

Looks like your throughput is fine, given your line rates, but for a sudden drop in line rates like that i'd suspect a physical issue. Have you isolated your equipment?

Hey Warren,

Thanks for your reply, as I previously said I am in an apartment building, so pretty much my router plugs into the RJ45/8P8C port in a wall and where it goes from there is a mystery. Yes, my problem lies with the low line rate! To clarify, I don't have any phone plugs in my apartment at all. I don't have a phone or sky TV or a burglar alarm. Just a new modem that's been plugged in since I moved in (and it has been working fine).

When I first moved in I was getting a line speed of around 16000Kbps which is what I would expect living in the central city (I am in the ADSL2+ and VDSL zones according to chorus). I do know when we initially moved in to our apartment before Christmas it was initially pretty empty (it used to be serviced apartments) however it is now mostly full. However, speed has only reduced over the last few weeks and I suspect not all of the new residents moved in at once.

What other testing/information can I do/provide that will help?

Hey there,

It would be worth testing either a second modem/router at your address, or trying your one elsewhere to rule it out. Unfortunately New doesn't always mean good.

Also if you Pm me your account details i'll have a look into it from our end.

do i need to contact my old ISP to get the connection transferred or will slingshot do this for me?

Slingshot will transfer the services from your current ISP to them. Once you are connected to Slingshot, you need to call your old ISP to make sure that they receive a churn notice from wholesale or just tell them to disconnect the services and cancel the billing.

I'm at my parents place where they have Slingshot ADSL. It wasn't working yesterday, we suspected the modem might be faulty and have just now tried to get a new modem to work. All we get is an error message saying No PPPoA or PPPoE PVC is detected.

Is there a Slinshot issue in the central Taranaki area at the moment?

Fibre is currently being laid down my street so im keen to get connected asap (which isn't until July afaik), so trying to figure out who to go with and currently Orcon are the only ones with plans out :/

My estimate at the roll-out of fibre plans:

July: fibre becomes available
August: Small ISPs offer plans
September: A few ISPs offer medicore plans on 24 month contracts.
October: One ISP offers a plan which is 5X better than others
November: Majority of ISPs offer plans which range from low speed and caps to high speed and caps.
December: A select few ISPS offer high speed and no data caps.

Game of cat and mouse. Just depends where Slingshot wants to join. I'm sure currently ISPs are focused on making money off broadband connections in the near future.

Hello Slingshot Geekzone lurkers

When I was paying my bill online on 6 April, I checked the prices of the new bundles and I found I could have got "Broadband 10" for $13.30 less and 5G more and faster data than my current "Voyager 256", of which I've completed the 2-year contract at the end of March.

I immediately emailed Customer Service to switch to Broadband 10. The next day (7 April) I got a reply asking me to personally call Slingshot to confirm. Since I am overseas and I've paid my April, I thought I would just call Slingshot a week or so before the next statement date to have the new Broadband 10 from the next billing cycle.

Today (23 April) I called Slingshot to confirm my intention to switch, but I was sold now the same Broadband 10 cost $71. How could prices suddenly change? It wasn't the end of the month/quarter/billing cycle. I wasn't informed of any deadline of the $60 offer, nor the website advertised the expiry of the offer.

I would like Slingshot to honour the $60/month offer for Broadband 10 - I have advised Slingshot my intention to take up the offer; I've followed the instruction to personally call back to confirm my intention. Now Slingshot wants $121 extra a year for the offer I had agreed to?

By the way Slingshot could have automatically "upgraded" me to Broadband 10 - I was paying $13.30 more and getting 5GB less. Really not pleased about that.

It would be my oversight had there been an advise of the offer deadline; there simply wasn't one.
