Chainsaw: Dear Slingshot,

When I signed up for your broadband several years ago I was told I got unlimited dial-up as well. Cool. I used the dial-up on holiday etc.

I haven't used the dial-up for a while and was preparing a laptop to use it this summer on holiday but couldn't get it to connect. A phone call to Slingshot revealed to me that this small bonus had been taken away without advice to me! I was/am very annoyed. Why was this done? Why was I not told? Surely it can't be a strain on resources at 56k max download? Seems a bad call for customer relations to whip it away without telling me too.

Really? That's the first I've heard of this, As far as I was aware it's still works. However you can't have your Broadband connected at the same time.

Have you tested it?

Wow, they offered free dialup if you had tolls and homeline with slingshot as well as a backup dialup for all broadband users.

Shocking news if this policy has changed.

I've never ever had a home line with them, do have tolls with Slingshot though.

I moved about 2 months back from Telecom to Slingshot. Since ADSL2+ upgrade I've always had excellent speeds Even after moving to Slingshot, it was excellent up until last week. Now, even some NZ sites failed to load completely, browsing is super slow and so is downloading. Spoke to a slingshot tech rep this evening, did some test tracert, ping etc and at the end he told me to log a ticket on the website and try different modem!! Check the before speeds, if I have got these high speeds earlier, it means my modem etc is ok and something else is going on!!!

After spending hours on the phone doing troubleshooting, getting stats etc, Chrous technician turned up unannounced at my place, had to rush from work as i wanted to get this sorted, he said everything is OK outside and at the cabinet, he wants to check the speeds at the modem. When i reached, he was on a call and said he has just discovered PPP authentication error which is causing frequent disconnections and possibly the speed issues. He changed the port and went away saying it will take 2 hours for the broadband to work again. Broadband is back since the last 45 minutes or so, speed is still same, upload sync and actual has gone down, earlier I was getting over 1MB upload now getting only .5 and modem syncing at lower upload and I can also see some errors on modem stats which I never noticed before, can someone tell me what these errors mean??

Hi stitch. We sent you a txt message and email yesterday at 11.33am notifying you of the chorus technician coming onsite today - did you not receive these?

I'll pass your feedback onto Joe, who has been helping with your connection. Did you receive the replacement modem we sent you? Have you tested it?

I received the modem(in use) and the text, after receiving the text at work I sent a PM to Joe asking him if the technician will turn up to my place and he said he won't come without making a time. I just spoke to someone at Slingshot who said technician will come back but don't know when and my internet is disconnecting frequently still, I might be without internet this weekend:(

I know this is a Slingshot thread, but post some modem stats so we can see what's going.

Here are the modem stats, I can also paste the results of tests done on the phone with Slingshot, ping results and tracert etc if that would help but it's going to make a very long post

You tried a different PC, almost looks like someone's installed some software that's rate limiting you

Very good line rates its almost like your too close, Looks like it might just be a profile error although I would have thought thats the first thing they would check....

Yeah tried a different PC and I'm about 200m from the cabinet, distance to exchange doesn't matter as per Chorus as my cabinet is connected via Fibre to the exchange. Something is definitely going on as just few hours back I got around 27Mb/s on the speedtest, lot more than the Line sync rate,will post the test screenshot here when I'm back on my PC.

That would be megabits (Mb/s) not megabytes (MB/s) and I didn't know ADSL2+ could even do those kinds of speeds.

Yeah that's what I mean Mb/s. Yeah even I was surprised, look at my results today, connection still dropping though, Note the time in the results
