Nil Einne: (It's not true if one device can reliably pick up a signal all other devices supporting the same standard and using the same aerial can as well, some devices can cope with weaker signals better than others. This is true for DVB-T but also DVB-S and really any other wireless transmission standard.)
I agree but I've found that TV tuners are usually far more sensitive than STBs. PC tuner cards seem to be the worst. DVD recorders vary but I've just upgraded to a new Panasonic BWT720 and it's tuner is by far the most sensitive I've come across. My son has also just upgraded. He is in a weak signal area and his Bravia has about 70/70 on the strength/quality bars whereas the Panny is 100/100. So it's quite possible moving to a new location nearby has made the difference between signal/no signal. Given the terrain in Titirangi there could be a lot of dead spots.
