DaveB:Brunzy: There was a v1.09 in august, not sure if there has been any OTA since then.
You cant force it,they have to be transmitting it
It really does beg the question - why do they not transmit the over the air update on a regular basis? Is there a big cost to the importer to do this?
There will be many boxes that were sold after that last update currently sitting in cabinets with the original (and slightly buggy) software.
Should it be the responsibility of the retailer to ensure that a new STB is sold with the latest firmware?
Yes - It costs them to do an OTA update - I stumbled upon the Freeview certification document somewhere a while ago. The box (or boxes) has to be sent off to a lab (in the UK I think it was) and it was something like several thousand pounds to be tested - whatever it was I remember it was more than $10,000NZ. It also mentioned the cost of each OTA session. I think they went for something like a week and cost a couple of thousand NZ$. So they dont do them indefinetely.
Dont know how people can get them upgraded if they miss the OTA 'window' unless it has another method of upgrade (like download from a website and use a USB flash drive or something).
