SBS is gone from Rotorua too!

Stage 5 of TDF did not record on the media PC last night.

I tried trying to view the SBS channels on a STB hooked to another TV and no reception there either.

Man .. this is so tragic. I've been looking forward the the SBS coverage of le Tour for a few months now.

Gone in Wanganui too, says no signal for about a second then says service scrambled??

Are there any Windows 7 based utilities where I could determine the signal strength?
I'm using Windows 7 Media Centre, and it's shall we say, a bit unscientific..
I'm getting anywhere from zero to 3 bars of strength on 12648V 12600SR.. mostly zero bars but every now then I get a little surge of 3 bars.. for about 5 seconds.
This is in contrast to any day up until last night where I would get nearly full strength.. all green bars.

What would explain that? Really just weather?

I'm not at home but got my wife to check the sbs channels and she said we still get them. She would definitely let me know if it wasn't working correctly.

Not sure of the signal strength will check when I get home.

This is in Wellington, with a 65cm dish. When I aligned the dish I didn't have a separate signal strength meter but I did have line of sight to the tv, so I set it up to be as strong a signal as possible. It might be that other people need to align the dish more accurately, or, get a bigger dish to get more signal strength.

I've just raced into the other room to check - yes - SBS HD, SBS2 (and Gem, Go, and Nine) all still there for me. Strength does seem down though - 49-50% instead of the more usual 65% (from memory).

Space weather maybe? Glitch in the transponder power?
Gusty winds shifting dishes all over?

I have a 90cm dish. Up until this morning the signal was quite stable except in really heavy weather when the video would ocasionally pixelate. I used a signal strength meter to align my dish and rotate the LNB.

From what I saw this morning, it looked to me like the signal was gone. I initially thought it was a hardware failure in my gear somewhere but after seeing this thread it looks like the problem is further a field.

It's just one satellite, I didn't think where you were in NZ would make that much difference? Apart from major weather events.

Probably not unless whatever it is, it's affecting us in non uniform ways.
Just having fun with collaboration maps anyway ;-)

It looks like you have several receivers attached to your LNB. Is one of them holding the LNB in horizontal polarisation?

It's a dual LNB with two cables running to a multiswitch. There's two cables running from the multiswitch to the dual tuner on my media PC and a single cable running (from the multiswitch) to a STB next to TV in another lounge.

Do u think the polarity has gotten stuck? Maybe when I get home I'll turn everything off and then initially turn on the media PC and try SBS again.

Thanks for the suggestion.
