Yabanize: Any idea what this adds? maybe some new options in the quick settings panel i heard maybe?

Bug fixes? battery life improvements?

I have to flash my phone back to stock before I can update hahaha

Why would you? If you run a custom rom now, you will have all these updates and more I'd imagine.

I only run Stock TNZ I9505XXUAMDE with Rooted with cf-auto-root which wont let me run updates as the device status is: modified :(

I have auto-root too I think, will it not update for me? Should I revert then-reroot? What does the update do?

Root is pretty handy for things like tasker, so I'd prefer not to lose it if possible.

If you go to settings>more>about device>software update and check for updates, it will prevent you and say that you cant because you are using a modified device

To fix this you will need to flash stock with odin, update it (or flash the latest) and then do cf-auto-root again

By the way have you ran triangleaway? If not I suggest you do

You should run triangle away as it sets your device status back to official so if your phone got sent in for a warrenty repair they cant tell that its been modified. If you dont care about this dont do it. But you can download it from the guy who made it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114

He provides it for free but wouldnt mind people buying it from the play store to help him

So after you run triangle away

You can get all samsung stock firmwares from this awesome site http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?page=1&model=GT-I9505&pcode=TNZ#firmware

it will show you the AMDE and the BMG4 ones (bmg4 is the latest)

You need to register at this site to download them (but dont worry its worth it)

You can download the AMDE one which is what you have now then update it or just download the newest one

Once downloaded you will need to unzip it you will be left with a tar.md5 file, This is the one you flash with ODIN

You should probably wipe cache and factory reset from recovery mode (power off phone, hold volume up and power to turn it on) and maybe after you flash it aswell

Once done that just go into download mode and flash them as PDA

After that you probably want to update your phone if you did the old rom and then do cf-auto-root again and run triangle away (if you like)

My opnion, since you aqre rooted try a custom Rom as the updates are still far behind them and will mostly never catch up, plus you can get rid of bloat.

If youi don't like it you can always falsh stock as detailed, nothing to lose really.

Thanks for all that Yabanize, Jeff, much appreciated. I guess I'd update straight to the updated one. I will use triangle away too.

If I do this do I keep all my home screen, apps, etc? It's just a firmware update so I should, right?

Can anyone recommend a custom ROM? I'm happy enough with stock, don't need anything fancy, but if there's a good reason to go with one that's fine too.

Yeah what are some good custom roms for the S4? I have considered using the Google Edition

I read a comparison of stock vs google edition ROM for the S4. Apparently the stock ROM had some advantages in the way it used the hardware, things like camera worked better. Review here.

Suspect I'll stick with stock for now.

Got it now but im a bit confused. Now in the settings>about phone there is a new listing that says Secure Boot Status: Samsung.

Does this mean it will now only run samsung roms? and wil stop rooting?

UPDATE: well i just cf-auto-rooted fine so obviously not

Some changes ive noticed:

The above^
Different looking top bar
Smart pause toggle in quick settings
some different looking icons in settings
More responsive (less lag)

Downloading my update now.

Been hard on custom roms since the original S but decided I'll stay as long as I can on stock. Took their time on this update though. I mostly miss the modified kernels with improved audio options, but otherwise I'm still going fairly fine with stock. I'm rooted so interested if I lose root after this update.

The s4 has some good audio options. When i tried to update while i was rooted it wouldnt let me, i flashed to stock
