kiwitrc: FYI, Phandroid are reporting that Samsung are selling one SGS2 every 1.5 seconds and they are yet to release them into the US market.

It looks like they are releasing them to the US market very shortly but with beefed up specs. I wonder if that will impact on the Nexus Prime when that is released later this year?

joker97:Hi NZGEEK, was wondering if you could super help me (or anyone else please!) ... the flash to cognition has broken my "imeitracker" and now samsung dive can't track my phone ... are you able to provide me a backup for me to try to fix the app?

It appears that /system/app/IMEITracker.apk is needed for this to work. This was present in older firmwares, but it's definitely not in Cognition, either the base rom or the removed APKs.

So far I've downloaded one other KH3 rom (LeoMar75), and the removed apps from yet another (Touch X-Treme), and still no sign of the APK. I'm now downloading the full Touch X-Treme rom to see if the APK is in there, but I don't like the chances.

If anyone else is able to find a ROM that has /system/app/IMEITracker.apk in it, please let me know and I'll try to make a CWM-flashable zip for it.

Surely the stock XXKH3 from samfirmwares.com would have it?

The roms I've been looking at all have CWM zip files, which makes it easy to get at the APKs. It's certainly possible to pull the files out of a stock rom, but I haven't had to do that before, so I'm unsure which tools are required and how to use them.

It's also possible that Samsung have screwed up, and for some reason the IMEITracker app has been left out of some of the 2.3.4 firmware packages. I'll try to find out.

From memory you just change the factory.rfs to factory.zip, and then you can extract it and get the regular folder structure (META-INF & SYSTEM). . . . .This is all from memory, so some (all!) of it could be wrong ;-P

No such luck. I just did a quick test using the XWKE7 firmware I have sitting around, and factoryfs.img is certainly not a zip file. A quick look in a hex editor reveals that it's quite similar to the other .img files in the firmware, which means it's in a special format. You need to use a tool to convert it to an EXT4 image, which then needs to be mounted before you can extract the files.

I now have 3 custom roms downloaded, all KH3-based, and none of them include IMEITracker.apk. What's more, none of the rom authors have mentioned removing the APK, and it doesn't appear in any of their removed APK downloads. I'm starting to suspect that KH3 simply has never had the APK.

Yes you're right I think - you need to extract it with UNYAFFS (via a CLI) and then you can browse the file structures. . . . .It's been a while since I faffed about with a stock ROM!! Wink

I've finally managed to track down a copy of IMEITracker.apk. It wasn't in any of the latest roms, so the copy I've got is possibly a little outdated. I haven't tried it yet, so hopefully it works.

You can download a CWM-flashable zip from my download page - look in the Other section.

I've also managed to extract the latest Swype beta from one of the roms I downloaded, and have put up a CWM zip file. The older Swype (from Cognition S2 v1.42) is also there for download, in case the new one has issues.

I'm actually using a beta version of Vipre Mobile which provides much the same functionality, as well as anti virus/malware detection.

On another note, does anyone know how to change the boot logo? I've tried searching XDA (don't even think about it...) but everything relates to the boot animation, not the boot logo (Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100)

hmm nothing changed, no app. i am wondering - could it be something to do with this -

when i look under titanium backup, at the bottom of the list are tonnes of greyed out apps with a white line through them. seems to be apps that are either corrupted or removed with traces left behind during the flashing to "cognition 1.5 no wipe". one of them is com.android.imeitracker.apk

now if i go somewhere (i can't touch it in titanium backup) and delete it do you think it will make a difference to the cwm flash update?

After flashing the zip, you won't see anything different. The app is a background service, not something you run, so no icon.

After flashing the zip onto my phone, I did a quick test to see if it worked, and it looks good. Samsung Dive was able to locate my phone, and the only message I got was about the phone not getting a GPS lock (which is impossible inside my workplace anyway).

Try logging into Dive and see what it says.

Low headset volume!

I have the galaxay sii and use the headset that came with the phone to call while driving. I find the volume is pretty low, even when turned to maximum.

Is there a way to increase the headset volume?

Thanks

I'm thinking of getting one of the Samsung battery extenders which add an additional 1300 mah battery. Any suggestions where best to pick something like this up?
