Disrespective: I didn't try the tracker option, but it certainly found my phone through the web interface.

I decided to try out Samsungdive with my Galaxy SL (GT-I9003).
Managed to register account and phone details and when I log into Samsungdive my phone and number show up correctly.
However if I try to do anything from the webpage( like Location Info Request) I receive a message "The function is not supported for your area".
Phone settings are as required according to FAQ on Samsungdive.
Can find no relevant info on this message anywhere.

Does the service not cover New Zealand?

hmm nothing changed, no app. i am wondering - could it be something to do with this -

when i look under titanium backup, at the bottom of the list are tonnes of greyed out apps with a white line through them. seems to be apps that are either corrupted or removed with traces left behind during the flashing to "cognition 1.5 no wipe". one of them is com.android.imeitracker.apk

now if i go somewhere (i can't touch it in titanium backup) and delete it do you think it will make a difference to the cwm flash update?

After flashing the zip, you won't see anything different. The app is a background service, not something you run, so no icon.

After flashing the zip onto my phone, I did a quick test to see if it worked, and it looks good. Samsung Dive was able to locate my phone, and the only message I got was about the phone not getting a GPS lock (which is impossible inside my workplace anyway).

Try logging into Dive and see what it says.

no luck. it seems the app package is actually present (and has been since the flashing to cognition 1.5) but the app is not running. is there anyway to like ... make an app package 'run'?

That is interesting!

It can't be anything to do with the phone, so it must be something on the PC side.
I've tried on IE9, Chrome, Firefox so I guess it's not a browser issue.

Which ISP and teleco are you with?

Why not? We're all using SGS2's and they work fine however you aren't...

Where did you buy your phone? Is it running a stock rom or a custom rom?

Bought phone online from Electron World.
Recently flashed it with a Gingerbread ROM from Samsungfirmware.

And I did create the account from the phone.

Prey is excellent. I'm trialling a Telecom SIM and as soon as I popped it in my phone it immediately turned on the "device is lost" feature and began sending reports. I hadn't realised it would do that on it's own. I thought I had to use the website to tell Prey it was lost/stolen.

I had the same thing happen when I was in the US earlier this year and put in a T-Mobile SIM. Started getting alerts that my phone was stolen. It was also snap shoting my location every 15 - 60 minutes (able to store the last 15 locations) and I could view this on the free online web portal. An interesting record of my trip! :-)

Works beautifully.

Locked phone when I flagged it missing and reported location correctly.

Doesn't have a wipe option, but maybe that's a good thing?

BTW, in "contact to notify" is it supposed to pick up the contact from those saved on the phone or must you enter a number?
If a number, what format should be used?

There is a way to wipe it, but it's not made particularly easy, for obvious reasons! Sorry, I thought you meant uninstall it, as opposed to wipe. Hmmm, not sure if you can wipe the phone if it falls into enemy agents hands.

Contact to notify I think is manually entered - use the format +6421xxxxxx (where +64 is NZ and 21 is 021, but you drop the leading 0 as you have specified the country). For ease of use, I enter all my saved contacts as +countrycode as it means they all dial if oversees and vice versa.

All up, not a bad programme for free and managing up to 3 devices. If you need more devices tracked you need to purchase a subscription. I also use it to track my laptop but haven't yet installed on my desktop. Also there doesn't appear to be a version for Honeycomb just yet.

You've picked up that you can activate tracking by texting your special activation pass phrase direct to the phone? e.g. MYPHONEISLOST or whatever. Very handy.

Okay, maybe they have released an update since I last tried. I couldn't seem to install it back in May on my Acer Iconia A500. Might give it another go.

Great! Yes, an update has been released so I can now see where my Honeycomb tablet is at all times with Prey.
