What's the best way to remove this? I remember there were people mailing each other some sort of USB jig?

old3eyes: I updated my Telecom supplied SGS2 to the official ICS on Thursday. There are two problems I found.

1. In version 2.3.3 when a SMS or MMS arrives and the fone was in driving mode the CLID or the contact name was voiced. This no longer happens. Normal fone calls are OK.

2. When I take my Skinny SIM out , put in one from another carrier and then put a Skinny SIM back in again the APN for Skinny is not saved and has to be put in again. It was in 2.3.3. This is not a too big problem now but when Skinny gets MMS putting in both will be a pain. Yes I do swap SIMs quite regularly..

Generally I have found ICS faster but I suspect that the battery life is shorter..

Skinny's APN never saves... You'll get very good at creating it each time. ;)

You mean it never saves in ICS?? If so any idea why as all the others do. The only one that didn't work after the upgrade was the Vodafone "Internet" APN that was fixed by downloading the latest APN from Vodafone and installing it..

Consider buying a 2000 mAh battery for it - really bumps up the life by a few hours : -)

My experience with the FOTA update to ICS on my unbranded/unlocked Aussie SGS2:

The update appeared to go off without a hitch. Battery life was abysmal. Several forced closes and lockups in the first day.
I backed up with Kies, it created a backup file, and luckily I also transferred all my photos across to my PC outside of Kies. Then I did a factory reset and started over with a clean ICS. Which is when I found that Kies didn't back up anything at all.

After downloading and installing my apps and configuring my newly-clean phone, battery life has improved. It took a couple of days to settle in and now I am getting similar battery life to what I had on 2.3.3. It's not as good as it was on 2.3.6 (which I still think was the better build).
ICS has some nice features but I am still undecided over whether its worth the upgrade from 2.3.6. It is most definitely worth the upgrade from 2.3.3 which is what most of NZ was stuck on.

One difference I've noticed is that on 2.3.6 all the Samsung apps were able to be uninstalled via application manager. ICS doesn't allow this. If you accept the Samsung update then you get stuck with uninstallable apps. This is, of course, on the Australian ROM so may not apply to the Telecom release.

The Telecom release is pretty much standard ICS with Touchwiz on top. There's only really one app installed by Telecom, which i find useful anyway, which is the Your Telecom app that tells you your free minutes/megs/texts remaining. I'm normally a hard out custom rom/kernel person but happy to run the stock ICS upgrade for the meantime. They've renamed the browser as "YWorld" That's no biggie. I have many of my usual installed apps and very rarely have a freeze or FC. I recommend ICS + Browser as a good alternative browser. You can also install Nova or Apex as alternative launchers to rid touchwiz

I've had Aussie Telco (Telstra) phones in the past which have always had a lot of installed bloatware and uninstallable, but this isn't the case with recent Telecom models.

I've been out of the scene for a while. Dow does the stock ICS compare to the old 2.3.6 Simple and clean rom?
Im still running simple and clean and still love everything about it. Is it worth the upgrade?

glad I didn't hang around waiting for updates and flashed a few days after getting S2. Basically I'm unimpressed with ICS but need to remember that GB was pretty well advanced and settled so I'll persevere no going back :)

Battery life isn't that flash on ICS well certainly not worth the trade off for the increase in speed, there are some nice roms out there and Omega I like but full of app's I don't need or want so will go back to darkyrom as I like the stability they offer without the glam.

Wanam 11.3.1 + Speedmod v16. . . . Use Titanium Backup to freeze anything you don't want.

Give CDTDROID's CM9NZ V1.1 rom a whirl either with standard kernel or siyahs latest kernel I am sure you wont be disappointed

Haha so during this 10 hour period, all you did was just watch your phone, and use another phone for your texting/calling/apps/gps/games/browsing/watching 1080p mkv videos/mp3s :P

Lol, the only time my stats look like that is overnight while I sleep.. the temptation to use my phone many times an hour is just too much to control!

My Telecom APN's keep coming back every time but Skinny's one just disappears. I have no idea why. Luckily it takes less than 30 seconds to re-enter it so it's never been a major concern.
