joker97: I just read that the s2 is inferior to many inc s1 in terms of headphone audio quality and that a certain voodoo kernel with some tweaking will make it superior ... Anyone explain?

In a nutshell the Wolfson chip used in the S1 and S3 gives excellent quality sound, particularly with the tweaks made by Supercurio's Voodoo Sound. The S2 uses a cheaper (supposedly) and lower quality Yamaha chip which leaves little to no room for improvement.
There are voodoo tweaks for colour, but nothing for sound on the S2.

thanks ... hmmm ... i'm a newly convert audiophile - i guess will defect to iphone 5 when it eventually comes out ... but for now -

anyone on omega rom (or any other ICS rom) noticed the volumes are much lower on headphone? on dlev 2.3.5 at volume 5 is pretty loud - since going to omega rom i need to be around 12 for similar volume ...

what about other roms? will siyah kernel be the problem?

ANOTHER problem - on siyah 3.1 - every so often the phone will heat up very very very hot like a short circuit and needs a reboot ... any other kernel options? abyss discussions are in german! i guess can wait till siyah 3.2 full release

I can't say what the sound chip will be in the iPhone 5, but it would be hard-pressed to beat the Wolfson in the SGSIII, especially when you factor in Supercurio's expertise.  To boost the volume on your current ROM, find a kernel that supports Voodoo Louder.

And yes, AbyssICS is fantastic (it's Italian too, not German) - I've just rolled over a day's uptime, and still have 85% battery.

@nofam out of interest. Have you changed any of the settings of the kernel or loaded a script?
If you have can you share please?
Also are you leaving things like wifi, data running. Or do you turn them off?

networkn: I'd like to know how I can use titanium backup to block google maps from requesting updates?

Sorry for the reply to an old post (catching up on the thread)...

Have you tried breaking the market link with TB? I've never done it, but I believe it's in the tap and hold menu for the app...

Ok, don't hold me to this, IANAL, etc etc, but from memory, if a recording is for your own *PERSONAL* use, and it will only be heard by yourself, then you don't need to ask/tell the other party/parties that you'd like to record them.

Please do your own research to confirm this... I'm fairly sure that's right though.

Happy to share - other than what's in my sig, I've enabled all of the CWM-based tweaks (Sched_MC, AFTR+LPA, EXT4 tweak, and hot-plugging), and I've also put a mild under-clock on all steps, with 25 - 200 all running at 850mV, and have dropped the bus speed moderately as well.

This setup works well for me because where I work has rubbish reception (no HSDPA - only dirty old G-spec!) so syncing takes longer, but at a lower drain than I'd get on other kernels.  I put my phone into flight mode at night, but that hardly makes a difference (around 2% overnight on flight mode or not).

Other than that, it's regular, light-ish use - browsing, the odd phone call, sms etc,

Brendan:
His best option is to install the latest custom rom; or, if he really insists, use odin to flash a standard samsung rom. Instructions below...

What about installing another launcher from the market via play.google.com on his PC?

(Edit: sorry, yes, old reply, and the problem has been solved by now, but wouldn't this work?)

Not only that, I've just realised I can now put my phone on "auto brightness". ?Crikey! ?That thing is so bright I'm going to need some time adjusting.?

Try tapping and holding the notification bar, and swiping left or right. it'll blow your mind.

Regardless of what the law may say I will always ask, even if it is just as a courtesy. It seems a little dishonest to do it without consent.

Sure, I only mention it as it can be easier than the hostile conversation around asking! ;)

don't know what you do, but after 1 hr on battery i was left with 85% on abyss 2.7 (no partial wakelocks acc to betterbatterystats, but cpuspy reports 50% non deepsleep while sleeping!)

flops straight back onto siyah 3.2rc1

Joker, my phone has no tweaks at all for voltage CPU etc, and I run it with everything I use turned on, wifi bluetooth (music in the car) sync etc. Even in this state I am getting a day and a half use on Wanamlite and Abyss.

What ROM are you running?  As kiwitrc says, that's pretty excessive drain.  Feel free to posts screens of your BBS output and running applications - I suspect you've got an app doing updates, or using a location service.
