joker97: unlikely - as the iphone 5 has not been released ... probably preparing to upgrade to s3

His comment was tongue in cheek

Lots of threads around the KIES update to ICS. Can someone confirm if this wipes all settings on your phone, including SMS history etc.

YMMV, but in the case of my unbranded UK (Clove) unit purchased a year ago, my upgrade to ICS retained all data and settings including SMS's and wifi passwords etc, except for the Bluetooth pairing of my external devices and all my home screens - they all reverted to Samsung's ICS default. I wish I'd done a screen capture of all my customised screens as it took an hour or so to get things as I like them, all from memory. My phone has only had GB updates via Kies throughout its lifetime.

The only thing  it did to my SGS2 was to remove all the icons on the main screens.  2 minute job to put them all back.  Everything else was as before with a few fixes that had been really annoying..

Just flashed a new ROM and said Yes to all the Google Sync stuff (don't normally) and it started downloading all my previous apps. I'm guessing this is normal behaviour? I canned it anyway and restored them all from Titanium backup

Hi, my wife is keen on one of these phones since I'll upgrade to the GSIII in May, however she doesn't like the textured back that comes with the phone by default. Can someone recommend an alternative, pref one with room to take the 2000mah battery discussed here a few weeks ago.

The SGP Ultra Capsule case covers the back and edges and accommodates the 2000ma battery very well without adding noticeable bulk, over and above how it looks with the standard battery. It's smooth, slightly sparkly and shiny but you'd have to want a case of course. I believe most other TPU cases will also fit the extended battery unlike most hard cases.

For example see: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SGP-ULTRA-CAPSULE-CASE-for-SAMSUNG-GALAXY-S2-S-II-I9100-/260997678472?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item3cc4ac8588

Could anyone recommend a repairer in Auckland for a replacement white screen? My sisters phone was dropped and the entire screen is broken however the phone still boots and her alarm still goes off so I'd assume the rest of the phone is ok.

I had an email from PBtech yesterday which I have already deleted. It was a special on repairing phones tablets etc.
Have never used them for repairs but they are a reliable company.

Any ideas on this trouble I'm having.

I had the trial version of Mobile Odin Pro a while, now when i go to buy it, it goes to the accept and buy screen and then immediately comes up with error. This is on any custom s2 rom.

Old GPS problems back with ICS?

Just started getting into GPS use a bit more since moving to ICS, but I've had some disappointing performance so far.  Running GPS Status this morning it was showing good fixes, but at times it'd suddenly lose all satellites then start acquiring again and looking for a fix.  This is exactly the symptoms I saw on a Galaxy S back when it had big problems and before I found a software fix.

On the S2 tracking on routes is not that impressive either, certainly worse than on the S after the problems were solved.
I think the GPS was better before I moved to ICS.  Currently running Wanamlite 11.5

Anyone else having GPS issues?  Any differences between different ROMs?

I use several different apps with GPS and have never noticed any issues. Recently I've been using CM9, Wanamlite (including 11.5), Omega AOKP and Omega ICS.

What happens when you try to buy it from the store on a PC? I've errors with the odd app in the past, but not this one.
