Chis: Old GPS problems back with ICS?

Just started getting into GPS use a bit more since moving to ICS, but I've had some disappointing performance so far. Running GPS Status this morning it was showing good fixes, but at times it'd suddenly lose all satellites then start acquiring again and looking for a fix. This is exactly the symptoms I saw on a Galaxy S back when it had big problems and before I found a software fix.

On the S2 tracking on routes is not that impressive either, certainly worse than on the S after the problems were solved.
I think the GPS was better before I moved to ICS. Currently running Wanamlite 11.5

Anyone else having GPS issues? Any differences between different ROMs?

Change your modem to something more Telecom or Vodafone-specific, and edit your system/etc/gps.conf file to the correct NTP server (nz.pool.ntp.org).

Actually just realized I hadn't done this since flashing the latest Wanamlite, and I'm getting a lock inside in around 4 seconds.

FasterFix is one of the first apps I run after installing a new ROM. There have been some weird NTP servers set on some ROM's!

Using Resurrection and my GPS fix is perfect. I get within 5 metres almost all the time. Used Faster Fix before and that works great too, otherwise very happy with GPS on ICS.

Has anybody else recently been updated to ICS?

does anyone think that it has killed the battery? I have had it a few days and i am making a move over to Cyanogen or something less demanding on the Battery Life.

I had the trial version of Mobile Odin Pro a while, now when i go to buy it, it goes to the accept and buy screen and then immediately comes up with error. This is on any custom s2 rom.

What happens when you try to buy it from the store on a PC? I've errors with the odd app in the past, but not this one.

I had the same problem using Wanamlite. Could only install the paid app using my pc. Flashed to Omega then the phones play shop app worked and I could purchases an app. Free apps where never a problem.

How is Wanamlite 11.5? I am still on 11.3.1 but hesitant to upgrade as everything is running sweetly.

No issues that I recall. I haven't had any experience with earlier versions to compare, but happy so far. Looking to update the kernel to try and improve battery life as it's not the greatest. Don't notice that much, if any, of an improvement over Omega. (Don't like the battery or wifi icons and will sort that out when I get some time to hunt for alternatives.) Pretty smooth all around.

I upgraded to ICS about 10 days ago (from memory) and I've found battery life to be better. I would often get home after work and have the phone bleeping a low battery warning. It's only happened once since I upgraded which is a much lower percentage.

Generally very happy with the upgrade.

I find 4.0.4 to be very similar if not identical to GB, the early TW4.0.3 roms were power hungry but they were pre-official release and i have been running custom roms ever since they became daily use stable.

I have come to the conclusion that anybody that claims stupidly good battery time is either lying, not using their phone often enough or heavily crippling their phone by disabling virtually everything!

I use and charge my phone daily, i regularly get 12~15 hours battery life with about 2~2.5 hours of screen on time, my work email address is extremely active during the work day so the phone barely gets to sleep which doesn't necessarily help

My batter drained in a couple of hours after upgrading to ICS.

Apparantly ICS install resets the battery monitors, so the battery needs to recalibrate. ie. after a bunch of battery cycles, things are suppose to 'come right.

Strangely my Juice Defender (battery saver) settings had reset, so I set that up again, and I can now get 8hrs out of my battery.

8hrs aint enough!

I'm now considering two options:

[1] - Factory reset / wipe, and reinstall stock ICS via Kies (or Odin if I can find the right ROM)
[2] - Take the plunge and install a custom ROM

Either option is more work that I would like, but I can't live with the battery issues. Oh, my phone also randomly turns off (requiring a physical battery 'reset'), and also crashes randomly - all since ICS update.

Anyone care to point me at a link for the official NZ SGS2 ICS ROM?

Before you look at flashing something else, I'd suggest you look at what's causing the battery drain - do a google search for betterbatterystats, and install it, along with CPU Spy. BBS will give you an idea of the apps/processes that are waking your phone from deep sleep, and CPU Spy will show how much time is spent in each CPU frequency (deep sleep, 200, 500, 800, 1000, and 1200Mhz). Run that for a few hours with regular use, and then let us know your findings (or post some screen shots).

I found that after updating to the Telecom load the battery life went down but after about a week of recharging it's now better than it was with A2.3.3

I already have these screenshots from "Battery Mix" which I liked better than any of the other battery monitors I could find on the market...

I know its not wot you asked for, so i'll probably go find the right tool anyway.

Onavoid = Onavo data monitor
Digi Clock widget is a clock widget that shows me seconds
Ap.Mobile is something I wish I could get rid of.

Having said all this, I doubt that this path will eliminate my other instability issues.

Oh, and BBS is payware, and I have an app buying embargo.
