I have just noticed some popped pieces on my fibre cement cladding. I usually put a recycle wheeled bin by the wall, and its handle has the same height as these popped pieces. So, my original guess is the wheeled bin causes it (possibly due to the extreme wind in Wellington). Is there any other reason you can think of?

Could I scrape the popped pieces, plaster them, and then paint them? Definitely will put the bin far away from the wall.....

whats on the other side of the wall?

those look like they have come out not pushed in. so i doubt bin would do much. those look like someone nailed something from the other side with long nails.

Hi, yep looks like something from the other side, or purhaps some nails under the panel have rusted and started to blow out taking the cladding with it. Could also be a result of punctures in the paint of the cladding, now its let water in and the fibre panel has blown out.

Maybe damage from the bin has cracked the seal and allowed water in, which has swelled something. I don't think that you would normally expect that with fibre cement, though the first material that they tried after phasing out asbestos (Weatherside) is known to be a problem (I'd hope that you'd know if that was your cladding material!).

It does look a bit like it's come from inside though.

Does that section of board flex inward if you push on it a little?
