I saw a Model 3 Performance pop up a couple of weeks ago as new but existing stock. So I grabbed it. Patience is not a virtue of mine. Turns out "existing stock" doesn't mean "in stock". My delivery window has changed twice already. Not complaining really, as I'll still get it much sooner than a custom order. Just thought I'd share in case someone else thought it meant "in stock". I guess "existing stock" means your vehicle has been built, but is still likely to be on a row boat from China.

Yep I agree. But what further confused me was "Available for delivery and registration in North Island". I took that as ready now.

I saw that tesla are trying to get away from every order effectively being custom at the factory. So they make lots of cars with slightly different specs - I guess a lot of fairly "standard" builds and send them off to be available to buy. So existing stock, in that they were built without "custom" orders.

When I brought my Tesla it was listed as 'in transit'. After picking it up on the 7th July 2021, I learnt it was already in the country at time of ordering, but still had to be certified along with getting its first warrant of fitness

They then delayed any pickup options for me until after the 1st so I could get the Clean Car Rebate.

I am sure things have changed since then (I note that they now have options for North and South Island)

This has always been the case with the Model 3 and Model Y.
