I have been with quic just over a month now and to say I'm not that impressed would be an understatement.

Checked their site for issues but nothing logged and checked chorus as well.

I have been doing speed test to the same server since I started with quic. One moment I'm getting 900up and just under 400 down on their 900/400 plan but then it is as little as 135/56. Attached is the latest test. Is anyone else having this sort of service problem?

1) No need for the all caps around here.

2) Yes, well documented since before you joined. Read the sticky post https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=194&topicid=307025

It’s also mostly you here. I track my speed hourly and it’s actually very consistent (940Mbit down, 520Mbit up) for a speedtest in New Zealand. You’re also testing to a different server likely every time you run that test which can hinder performance.

As others said it’s documented, they’re working on replacing their entire network and please don’t use all caps.

OP might have been a bit shouty but I think he has a point.. my speedtest tracker is showing some pretty massive volatility consistent with what he's talking about.

I’m seeing very consistent results personally but I’m on their beta network.

Smashed core routers on the providers end (hence why they’re replacing their network) combined with the holidays where there may be additional load on these already loaded routers will cause this though.

I don’t think there is any point really discussing it right now as it’s not something they can solve. Quic/Vetta have already explained this is the whole reason for the network replacement project and I’ll imagine they’ll get onto this early next year.

Some of their BNG’s may be worse than others currently too. For Speedtest Tracker lock this (at-least for now) to Chorus Fibre Lab in Auckland and it should net you pretty stable results.

While they've spoken to technical solutions, Quic have as yet been silent on the matter of how (or even if) they are going to "put it right" in the customer service sense and I think it's important to continue publicly documenting the issues people are having. I like Quic, I still plan to remain a customer at this point, but my patience is finite and ongoing issues would be less frustrating with an ETA for the technical works and some indication of how they will put it right.

Also, overall more stable but still seeing volatility locked to the Chorus server.

Yeah there really isn’t much they can do right now until their network migration happens. That’s the problem. After they’ve got that behind them I know they’ve got solutions for the rest but as per their most recent post on here they’re all heads down and had a plan to fix all this before Christmas but that went pretty badly.

Given this all happened around the holiday period they’re currently just focused on keeping things online going through a change freeze like the rest of us. I don’t think you’re going to get any answers until mid January when people get back to work.

These issues are not great, but not terrible either. You’re still online and that’s the main thing that matters right now. When my backups happen overnight I’m still getting my full 500Mbit upstream to Aussie, I can still get nearly Gigabit to most places currently too. It could be a whole lot worse 😊

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Running back-to-back gigabit speedtests doesn't exactly help with network loadings.

Even running a test every 5 minutes only generates a few hundred gb of traffic a month on a connection that at theoretical max speeds could do around 10tb per DAY. My total usage is generally only around 10tb/month, so I don't think it's really that much of an issue.

Yeah actually you shouldn’t be running one every 5mins. Every hour is acceptable but 5mins just adds unnecessary load and really doesn’t tell you much. Speedtest server operators also hate this.

One hour is not nearly granular enough IMHO but I'm open to suggestions on alternative ways of ensuring I'm getting within spitting distance of headline speeds 24*7

But if you know the network is already operating at or near capacity (as it clearly is, Quic have been pretty up front about this), then adding additional unnecessary load that can negatively effect other users isn't the best thing to do.

Networks are never built with the assumption that all users are using 100% capacity 24/7. There are massive diversity factors inherent in the design - for starters, Chorus has 16x potentially-gigabit customers per upstream port, sharing a 2.5Gb/s capacity. It only gets tighter from there. Look at the HFC networks and it's a few hundred customers sharing similar bandwidth.

Why do you need to prove whether or not you're getting headline speeds 24/7?

Even running one every 5 minutes, we're still talking a few hundred megabytes of data per hour. You cannot seriously tell me that a few hundred mb of data per hour is making any sort of noticeable impact on an ISP core network, even one with issues.
