The patch panel is a Molex with 2 rows of 24 jack points, I got it on Trademe for $31, I have brought the main phone line through the ceiling into the closet, split it into phone and data with a master adsl splitter/filter, the phone from the filter goes into a BT jackpoint which I have labeled 'test point' and then patches into one of the blocks of 8 in the panel which I have linked by inserting the blue and white wire into the blue and white connectors, another photo
The phone line tested all ok by pluging a phone into one of the 7 jackpoints (the 8th is the phone in. I cut the end of a phone cord with a phone jack and attached a rj45.
the adsl line from the splitter is fixed by electrical connector to a lead going into the rj11 (I think) to the modum, then I made up a short patch lead using the cat 6 cable I brought and 2 rj45s.
So far so good, but when I ran the cat 6 lines to the rooms in the house I ran into some problems:
The patch panel states 568A wiring but the colour coding behind the jacks points is 568B, I understand that this doesn't matter for ethernet anyway. If you look at the third photo you will see that I have done one (number 37) according to 568A and the other according to the colours on the pushdown points, brown, brown/white, green, green/white, orange, orange/white and blue, blue/white, notice also the top left where I have joined all the blue and blue/white to have 7 phone lines.
Once I started to test the cables I put to the rooms I ran into some problems, initially I just connected the blue and blue/white so I could test the phone, it didn't work

but if I use a normal phone lead with the rj11 (I think) on it it works, why would having a rj45 with only two wires in not work when it does when it plug straight into the panels that I wired for phone (the same cable), so I have this rj11 to rj45 lead that I can use to plug the phone into any of the phone points in the patch panel (7 abyway as one goes in from the phone line.
When I attach the rest of the wires, I am a little confused by the colour coding on the keystone jack point, which looking at the back is top left blue and blue, top right orange and green, bottom left green and orange and bottom right brown brown. There is a ABBA down the middle, I try a diagram
Blue A Orange
Blue B Green
Orange B Brown
Green A Brown
Does this mean that I can say treat the left and right most as A, and the inner ones as B, therefore for the orange and green (which are for ethernet right???) so I could do top rightmost as orange then bottom secone in as the orange/white????
Lastly, I was thinking I could patch straight from the modum to the panel jack going to the rooms rather then patch the 4 modum outputs into the back of 4 panel jacks, then patch again to the room I want, am i wrong in this??
Any help appreciated! I think the photos are up, let me know if they aren't, they are uploaded to my geekzone gallery
