A family member is of for their  big OE, first travelling to hot/wet countries before finding work in Europe. Backpacking etc

So Notebook or small Laptop?  features needed.... a robust build..and

I expect lots of web browsing, films (when stuck in airports),planning....photos, calls home...and I expect in Europe use in an office as holiday disappears and becomes work. Oh yes budget means it needs to be amazing value for price.

So it will need to survive being in a  pack...in humid countries....so will need to be able to take a bump or two....

Features I expect it will need usual USB, in built good webcam, great storage capacity(for photos, video)..migrate to cloud storage when connected, able to work on poor wifi connections, able to run HDMI connections to larger screens...oh yes battery life ideally amazing....(maybe a spare battery) or ways to get double or better battery life when mains power is limited e.g. power packs).

Suggestions on best travel apps for phone and notebook/laptop...to help when things go wrong....or when you need to stay connected 

e.g. currency converters, apps like Airbnb - communication apps (voice over internet)..what is the best for voice and video communicating software - great quality but efficient - especially if WiFi connections are not great...social media etc...are there new apps out there that should be considered...list of travel apps/

Budget, means we need to get a great buy...maybe last years model that is now been cleared....what is the right size, right build (great to travelling)...best battery life or ways to extend it.....can work with limited wifi capability....but when in europe can take advantage of all the functions needed when working back in mainstream, MS office etc. 

Best ways to protect, both physical and software...anti virus/malware..without killing performance.

Suggestions...what and where to buy.....and what to run on it. e.g. some apps are lot more efficient that others...and don't drain the battery?
