I switched networks from Vodafone to Telecom using the new portabilty process of keeping my 021 number. The new Telecom phone was a Nokia 6165i. I orginally had voice message problems that got solved but from day one I would not recieve a text message that was sent to my phone while the phone was off then turned back on.

Example. I turn the phone off when when I go flying as it automatically diverts to the helicopter phone (027). If anyone texts my 021 phone, from either a Vodafone or Telecam phone, while the phone is off the text messages will not come through after I turn my phone back on. The only time the text messages do come through is when someone else texts me while my phone is on. And then all text messages arrive at once. It happens everytime and I have complained to Telecom, for months now, via phone and email and they just ignore it ......"We have passed on your problem to the Technical Staff"........

Mainly Mobile replaced my phone to a Nokia 6275i incase it is a hardware problem but no. The problem still exists. I have Google searched this problem but found nothing.

Has anyone else come across this problem?

Does this happen regardless of whether or not the phone was "diverted" when switched off?
Is there any patten to this behaviour, e.g. length of time phone is switch off. Do the texts sometimes come through on their own accord?

The phone always diverts to my 027 phone if it is on, otherwise goes to my voice mail. That could be a point though, maybe I should have my tandem phone temporarily disconnected.

There is no difference whether the phone is off for 1 minute or 1 hour, any text that is sent while it is off then it will not come through till another text is recieved.

There have been occasions when texts eventually arrive on their own without being "pushed" by another text but not till the next day, usually 5am in the morning.

Yes, maybe temp disconnect the tandem. It shouldn't affect it, but I guess it's just about doing a bit of troubleshooting to take back to Telecom. I.E. it all works after taking the tandem out, you can tell Telecom "if I do this" or "i do that" it makes it work.

It sounds like whilst your phone is off, the messages end up in the "hold" que. So it stops retrying to send them. They get re-triggered by the next incoming text, or the early morning retry.

The question for Telecom, what is stopping the periodic retry?

Cheers mate. I've lodged a complaint to Telecom for the lack of assistance and not solving my problem. If nothing comes out of that then I'm going back to Vodafone!

Yes yes, me too!!!!

I ported my 021 number to Telecom as part of an experiment, but has been stuck there for now...  But yes, whenever I switched off my phone, messages will come flying in a few hours later, and mostly when others just Txted me!

I've went into a Telecom store before, and the salesperson there told me that it was due to a Pantech problem....  I personally disagreed, but didn't really raise it any further...

Please let me know how you went on with it!

Try making a voice call (e.g. to an 0800 number so it's free) once you turn your phone back on and see if all your messages arrive at once while you are on the call...

Good, there is someone out there with the same problem!!!!! How many are there? Of course Telecom will not tell.

I got my Tandem phone disconnected yesterday arvo and tried again. Same result. What else I did was have a text to my phone while it was off, turned it back on and hoped that no one else would text during the night. Sure enough at 6.50AM the text came through without being pushed by another.
I'm going to give Telecom one last chance to deal with it before changing back to Vodafone.

Jessey, have you filed a problem with Telecom? How long have you had the problem?

I have been told that if you turn off your phone or go out of service for a period of time that when you come back into a reception area or you turn your phone back on, you should make an outgoing call to make sure the phone has reconnected itself to the network.  Otherwise you run the risk of your texts and voice mails not coming through.  Its like the phone does not register its back on the network and the network does not register the phone until it has activity.

I understand your point but not in this case. I can turn my phone on, make calls, receive calls but the messages will not come through untill pushed by a new message.

I'm sure I've experienced something similar with my old telecom mobile (and I've never ever had any of my numbers ported between the networks). This is just my own personal opinion based on past experiences, but it seems like the txt messaging is less robust with telecom than vodafone in terms of messages getting through?

No, I didn't file it with Telecom (since I plan to leave soon anyway)....

But basically, yeah, I have the exact same problem.  Calls are fine after switching my phone back on...  But calls don't "push messages", only new Txt does....

So I guess it's not a Pantech problem then.....  Is it a Telecom problem then, or a "ported Telecom" problem?

yeah im aware there are a few problems with ported numbers
such as delayed text messages, mainly with samsung w531
another would be recieving international texts...
but in these cases, these are indivdual faults but common, but there a alot of ported numbers not experiencing any problem at all.
i believe with telecom you have denammd/reprogrammed mobile, crashed your mobile? etc etc etc without luck
as a last resort, you should have telecom fully disconnect ur ported number, and reconnect it.
it can help, otherwise alcatel, who looks after telecom network will investigate further.
let us know what the outcome is, am interested myself as im planning to port over myself

Thanks for everyones input. I've yet to hear from Telecom after I have put in a complaint. I've contacted Consumer and after that I think Fair Go but first tell Telecom that I will be doing that to see if that gets a response!!!!!

If anyone else reads this and know of the problem please say so. Any input is good input and I can use it.

Thanks again.

HeliSteve: I can turn my phone on, make calls, receive calls but the messages will not come through untill pushed by a new message.

I was thinking about porting my 021 number to Telecom after my contract expires next year. However, this sort of issue would definitely persuade me not to do it Frown

Like most people, I rely on my incoming TXTs arriving in a timely fashion.  It will be very interesting to see the outcome of this case.

Thanks Grant. The public needs to know the issues of problems with Porting and Telecom needs to come clean.
