So over the last 4-5 years ive claimed insurance on my telecom phone 3 times.
1 Stolen
1 Lost
1 Water damaged (doh!)

Anyway from the most recent one i just recived a letter in the post from Telco (the insurance company) saying that due to my claims history my policy has been cancelled.

Which i guess is fair enough and insurance is at their discretion.

My phone has dropped in value anyway so im not too gutted.

So anyway all you people on Telecom and insurance look after your phones!!

Im just wondering what happens if i ever sell my phone and number to someone and they buy a brand new phone and wish to get mobile insurance? Will they be allowed or is the phone number "blocked" from getting insurance.

A new customer should be fine to get mobile insruance even with your existing number.

Excellent, a frined or family member might take over my number from me in a years time and would look to be purchasing an expensive telecom phone with insurance.

Get the number in the new name.  One thing that's good is that you got a letter and are aware of not having insurance anymore.  We often get customers in-store claiming they didn't know.  So, now I know that Telecom does notify customers of cancelled insurance...

How do i put the account in a new name? Is there a transfer of ownership type form or similar instore or online?

Isnt phone insurance only an option when a "new" phone is purchased?

Cheers

To transfer ownership, you can call 123/126 or visit a Telecom Store or Dealer. Mobile insurance can only be added at the time of connection or upgrade, and ONLY covers the account holder and NOT any users (unless it is a business account).

*Jono* - I was assuming your phone would be upgraded at the time of change of responsibility...
