Hello,

Earlier this week, Chrous setup Spark VDSL (unlimited) at my home in Three Kings. Prior to that I had Spark ADSL (unlimited). I have a phone line too, so it's not a naked connection.

Since getting VDSL I have noticed Netflix freezing much more often than before.

In the past for ADSL, I used a Draytek Vigor 120; I cannot recall connection speeds as I never really had concern to check. Now for VDSL, I use a Draytek Vigor 130 and it looks like my VDSL connection speeds are approximately 17M (down)/1M (up).

Two things concern me a little:
1. My VDSL connection seems more unstable than my old ADSL connection.
2. I was hoping for faster download speeds on VDSL.

Here is some info from my Draytek Vigor 130 VDSL modem (taken a few hours after a power outage in the area):

I live directly east of Big King reserve in Three Kings, relatively close to the cabinet on Duke Street and Mount Eden Road: https://gis.geek.nz/chorus/@-36.9018863,174.7488878,15z

I don't know enough to assume that there is a problem or if it's just tough luck; can someone with an understanding of the information above please advise?

I don't know if I have a master filter.  Is that something that Chorus would have installed during the VDSL install?  What does it look like and I'll try take a photo of the cabinet in my house.

Ping @coffeebaron - looks like you need a master filter installed.

You have very high downstream attenuation (31dB) - i'm surprised that your VDSL works as well as it does.

A master filter may help - in  my opinion they should be standard issue with all VDSL connections, but sadly, they are not.

Based on your UAS it looks like your hella erroring on the upstream, which would cause periods of No data transfer.

Please DM me your account number/line number, I'll run some tests on my end. Based on the UAS, is possible your seeing RFI, however your error counters don't exactly lineup with what i'd expect to see.

Side question, how far away is fibre (UFB) for you?

Okay so looking into this one, OP is down quite a ROW, Likely a 100 pair bundle going into the location.

Speeds are within spec of the bulk of other customers in that area, Unfortunately is Exchange fed.

At best, looking at 1.5KM from Exchange, Likely further.

I've advised a move back to ADSL, If the problem continues. we have seen 11 DLM related resyncs Since the move to VDSL, as of yesterday this dropped down to a single non DLM related resync. So it may seem alot more stable as of now.

OP - forgot to mention in my DM, 07/04/2019 is when you will likely be looking a fibre :)

ddDLM was trying to train the connection, Peaking at a nice 21mbit down but obviously with far too many errors thus the retrain back down.

As with what goes with ddDLM, upstream was ever so slightly better on ADSL, however this is trending towards sitting comfortably back at 1.2mbit.

IMO, i don't agree with ddDLM being as aggressive as it has been on the line, but definitely is looking a bit happier now.

I'm further monitoring the line to look at errors and such.

This is a master filter -> https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/MODDNX001/DYNAMIX-XDSL-Master-Wired-in-filter-ADSLADSL2VDSLV

They're tiny, about 50mm * 10mm * 30mm

They go inside the ETP enclosure ie the white square plastic box on the wall outside your house that the phone line hits
