Hi All,

Ok back story, we just recently moved to current address and apparantly we are 2km from the exchange but VDSL was avilable so we got it and the speeds were download 12mb and upload 0.5 mb.

So we got suggested to revert back to adsl to see if it improved and it only got worse with the upload dropping too 0.2 mb, we got back into touch with spark to go back to VDSL and they will request a chrous tech to come as something seems seriously wrong with the upload speed. Anywho we got reconnected to VDSL but then find out the chorus tech refused to even bother coming as he said the slow speed will be due to living 2km from exchange. I guess im asking surely 2km from exchange wouldnt be the reason for an upload speed of 0.5? (we once lived at a place that was much furthur from exchange and had higher upload then currently).

ps. we have tried multiple different modems and filters and still the same speed

2km is too far end of story go back to ADSL2+ and then get a master filter installed / dedicated xDSL jack point don't use line filters

The speed is even worse on ADSL2, it runs at 0.2 MB Upload, my previous address was much furthur from exchange and was getting much higher upload

@Mrgg I have edited my post above the slower speed on ADSL2+ will be due to poor house wiring

VDSL is really best out to 1 or 1.2km any further than that and it's all down hill very fast

This topic has been thrashed here on Geekzone and it's always the same thing, Honestly take the advice request to move back to ADSL2+ get a dedicated jack point for the modem

If you are on naked broadband (no home line) you might be able to sort it out yourself with a little know how

At 2km you're too far for VDSL2 but ADSL2+ should be fine.

You need to elimimate your internal wiring as the cause of the issue because statistically speaking it's the most likely cause. You own this wiring, not Chorus, so you either need to pay somebody to fix this or pay Chorus to install a master filter to eliminate the internal wiring.

How many jackpoints do you have?

Then you are not 2km from the serving exchange / cabinet maybe straight line you are but copper does not always run direct,

Post the modem xDSL line stats

There's the issue right there. Closer to 4 or 5km, assuming there is no physical line problems.

The problem is the speeds are even worse on the ADSL and the lag/rubber banding on games is more noticable, all the indications ive been getting from sparks reps etc are saying the upload should be alot better then what it is (which i believe is the case too as ive lived alot furthur from exchanges in past and have got better upload speeds), we have a cabinet about 700 m down the road but the chorus tech reckons were 2km out so im not quite sure, but like i said he never even visited to check the street cabinet or house he just came to the conclusion we're too far from exchange

Generally upstream issues are IW related.

I'm happy to look into this, as @runningman alluded to, Yeah i am currently off.

I'm working the 6th remotely, but otherwise the usual corporate standdown period.

@mrgg please DM me your details, case number would be great as then i don't need to dig for the history of work already completed.

I'll see if i can't find the time to pull out the laptop and such this evening for you if your quick on it.

on the note of the chorus tech;

They love the comment "too far" in many cases, this is totally valid. however in rare cases it can simply be there is actually a fault and they simply don't have the time to commit to looking into it. - I'm ever so hopeful chorus will scrap the dumb contractor agreements for ones that will allow the network to preform.
