I'm new here. I've been lurking but finally decided to sign up.
So I'm with Xtra on the Go Large plan. I was quite excited when I heard the unlimted bandwidth was here. I am a avid P2P user and before I was limited to 10GB so as soon as it came out I got it.
Then I believe a few months ago Xtra removed the plan from their lineup and thats when the problem came in.

Before they dropped the plan, I could easily get 770kilobytes a second speed from RS.com at peak use time (6pm-10pm) and I could download a 700mb movie in around 20 minutes.
Then slowly my speed started to drop. It's now at the point that it's limited to 64kb/s. Thats only 512k. Then my US traffic speed started to get limited and now the maximum download speed from California is 1megabit.
And over the last week my NZ traffic has been limited. At the moment it's 450kb/s. Last week it was about 650kb/s.
I do understand that it's in Telecoms T&C's that speed will be limited to clients who download vast amounts of data.
So about 2 weeks ago I rang Xtra up to see what was going on. I also found out that Xtra outsources their calls to America (I talked to 3 people and they were all American's). After talking someone who didn't really know much I asked to talk to his manager. I was passed onto a woman who didn't know virtually anything about broadband. I had to explain to her what megabit and megabytes and fibre optics and alot of other things. She also didn't even know what cable networks that Telecom use (well you problaby wouldn't expect that every customer support rep knew that Xtra used Cogent etc.)
Though she did tell me that I was limited to 700mb a week. Thats 2.8gb a month! I was used to using around 25-30gb a months so that was a big shock to me.
And then the other day I upgraded my crappy G604T to ADSL2+ which increased my speed by 0%. Thats right, before and after speeds showed no difference at all.
Yea so I'm waffling a bit but I am annoyed that Telecom have limited my speeds. Why did they suddenly limit them once they wanted to get rid of the plan? I would of thought from the start that would imply speed limits.

So thats my rant for the day.
