I like to periodically check my email spam folder on the xtramail site to ensure there are no emails in it from senders that I actually want.

For the past three months or so, whenever I check the Spam folder it is completely empty.

Either I am the only person on the planet who doesn't receive spam or there is something maybe not working correctly and any messages that Spark deem as spam are being deleted immediately or put somewhere else before I get any chance to check them.

I've contacted 'Help' and having no answer they finally boosted the query to their 'second tier help'

They don't seem to have an answer either (or else they're not understanding my query exactly) They said that spam messages are automatically deleted from the folder after 30 days. Presumably meaning I just happen to be checking at the very times they've just been deleted.

Maybe once that could happen but not many times over months!

Anyone else have this problem or have any idea how I can get spam emails again put into the spam folder so they can be periodically checked?

Thanks for any suggestions.

SMX dont generally put spam in there, they just delete them with out any notification to the receiver so you have NO idea how much spam you are actually receiving, or whether you are getting emails from legitimate sources marked as spam either

99% accuracy!

Unless you are a voucher or dynamic web page malware host like the current onslaught getting through.

But you can see ones you marked (via web portal) in the spam folder via web login. The IMAP ones don't seem to marry up these - they disappear totally from IMAP but remain online

Thanks for the replies.

Spark/Xtra do put emails deemed spam into an accounts' web portal 'spam' folder and they used to in my account up until a few months ago. Their tech's advise that the spam emails remain in the folder for 30 days and are then deleted. I've had two other Xtra email users check their accounts for me and they have dozens of emails in their spam folders. So for some reason emails deemed to be spam are no longer visible in my account's spam folder for whatever reason.

If you are using a mail client, likely same reason I mentioned. Seems IMAP does not associate the folder as part of the sync. So on a client, you don't see anything. But online it's populated

Thanks for the reply Oblivion. Not sure what imap is and not quite sure what you're meaning - I use Thunderbird on my pc to view emails downloaded from the server. There is no Spam folder on my pc but there is one if I check my emails on the web at Spark/xtra. The thing is, for years I could go there periodically and check that folder to make sure there were no emails incorrectly deemed 'spam'.  There were always spam emails in it with the occasional one that should not have been marked spam. Now for some reason there is never anything at all in the folder. Two others I know who use Xtra checked theirs and they have dozens as I once had. I haven't changed any settings anywhere.

Thanks for the reply Jase.

I'm not getting ANY! (for months) I must be the only one who never gets any spam at all at that rate! surprised

like i mentioned in my first post smx block it before the user gets it, you dont even get the option of checking it yourself SMX decide that for you. It also means that some legitimate emails may get caught up in there and you not know.

To me this is pretty poor as how do i know im not getting some emails? for instance geekzone was blocked for a little bit.

i had 2 emails in mine, both were legit emails and both i have marked as not spam before.

I shouldnt have to add every address i receive emails from to my address book to make sure it arrives in my inbox.

The amount of spam I've been receiving in my inboxes  seems to have dropped significantly, I rarely see any "new" messages in the spam folder unless I move something there myself or the junk mail filters I have on Thunderbird kick in.

Hmm, looks like Spark/Xtra have gone 'overboard' with their spam treatment then. Not always convenient to enter every email address into the online address book... and what about legitimate emails that you don't as yet know the address of?

Leaving all your 'deemed spam' visible in a spam folder for the 30 days they reckoned they do would sort the problem. But it seems they don't even do that.  frown
