Interesting - where did you find this info? Does not have 4G/LTE built in? - thats strange given the SSM2 does.

It's the new generation of the Fibre/DSL Smart Modem 1... I agree the naming/numbering is not ideal :-)

Smart Modem (now known as Spark Modem 1) - Suitable for DSL/Fibre. Still provides excellent FibreMax performance. No 4G/5G capability

Smart Modem 2. Intended just for 4G FWA. Has been deployed in some cases for Fibre in "Wireless while you wait" scenarios, and in isolated instances due to stock issues. WAS NEVER INTENDED to succeed the Smart Modem as the Fibre router of choice.

Smart Modem 5G. Same as the Smart Modem 2 except with a 5G radio for 5G FWA.

Smart Modem 3. Evolutionary replacement for the original Smart Modem 1. Same form factor, same DSL/Fibre only WAN options.

Smart modem 2/5G/3 all support the current Smart Mesh 2 Wifi extenders. The original Smart Modem 1 used a different Smart Mesh wifi extender that is not compatible with the new models.

Smart Modem 3 will replace the Smart Modem (1) in function - i.e. ADSL/VDSL/Fibre. I'm not sure when it launches, but given its up on the website it might have launched already.

Smart Modem 2 will continue to be for Wireless Broadband connections.

It appears to have been recently referred to as a Smart Modem (V2) and not a Smart Modem 2.

That's a shame,
- I'm guessing it won't be activatable by a firmware update either, as it requires a 6ghz transmitter.

...... Perhaps they should call the SmartModem1 = SmartModem F1 (for fixed line)

And the SmartModem2 = SmartModem W2 (for wireless broadband)

With the "F" & the "W" they could then increment the numbers to their hearts content and people would recognise easier, that they were two distinct 'lines'...

You would think a marketing manager would be intelligent enough to work this stuff out....

If they are going to put a 2.5gb Wan port,
They should make all the Ports 2.5gb...., then we could finally start to adopt faster network speeds...

Look at the USB naming scheme. This is crystal clear in comparison.

At least we don't have a 'Smart Modem 3.2 Gen 1' that is just a renamed Smart Modem 1, and then the new Smart Modem 3 might be the SM3 Gen 2x2 (but the wireless is 4x4 so that makes no sense). And then the power cables would look the same, but not be backwards compatible, and one of them would only support 100mbps data transfer even though it looked the same...

This isn't too bad haha.
