I have a spark nokia 4.2 on the latest android 11 release and I cannot enable volte as it is not shown anywhere.

If I search the settings for volte I see 3 entries "VoLTE" "Advanced Calling" and "4G Calling" but on selection there is no option to enable it.

Nokia assure me that this phone supports volte.

Does anyone have volte working on this phone using any carrier in nz ?

Since this was supplied by spark is it maybe still in the volte compatible testing stage if anyone knows ?

Cheers

It isn't listed on Spark's VoLTE page: https://www.spark.co.nz/shop/mobile/volte/

I would guess they won't support it - quite an old model phone

Don't see anything that indicates this phone has support for VoLTE on Spark. Just because it generally supports VoLTE doesn't mean it will work on a specific carrier.

Another thing to check is if you have VoLTE enabled on your profile. - Put your sim into a phone that definitely supports VoLTE on Spark and see if it works.

I confirmed that my spark profile did not have volte enabled even though I had contacted spark the previous week and was ensured it was enabled.

I contacted spark again who provisioned volte and tested this was working on a borrowed iphone. Also tested volte on one nz with iphone and confirmed working

Nokia 4.2 still not working on spark or one nz with volte.

@gajan; would you perhaps know if the Nokia 4.2 (purchased in NZ as a Spark phone from The warehouse) will actually be provisioned for VoLTE by Spark?  The model doesn't appear on the "supported devices" list on either Skinny or Spark websites, despite being a "Spark Phone" (originally)...

I was in a similar situation with my ancient LG V30+, not a supported Spark VoLTE phone. The Australasia version of this phone had no visible settings for VoLTE, but it is a VoLTE phone in some overseas networks.

To get it working on Spark required two things:

1) call Spark and get to enable VoLTE on my account

2) use LG "secret" codes to access hidden settings where I could enable and setup VoLTE

The Mobile Settings now has a working VoLTE enable/disable slider, and the phone works fine at least on basic mobile-mobile VoLTE calls.

I did have an initial issue, default VoLTE settings were for SIP to use TEL URIs, needed to change to SIP URIs.

It was easy for this once high-end phone to find info on the web for its secret codes, and even some instructions for enabling VoLTE.  Not sure that is true for your old Nokia???

And of course tinkering with hidden settings is at your own risk!

Hi Ceemour. Unfortunately Nokia 4.2 is not enabled for VoLTE on Spark or Skinny. To make VoLTE work, you need a provisioned SIM (we do this bit) and a device that recognises / supports Spark / Skinny as a VoLTE supported carrier (OEMs do this bit, we can only request). Unfortunately when we launched VoLTE, we were advised by HMD that this model was already at the stage of its lifecycle where we could no longer request feature changes. We can double check your SIM is provisioned correctly, but I've just double checked with a VoLTE enabled SIM in my 4.2 and it's still not supported / falls back to 3G for calls. Regards, Shane @ Spark.
