Hi,

Wonder if you guys can confirm this for me.

Make a call from one XT mobile to another XT mobile and send DTMF (push the numbers on the keypad)

I just get DTMF slience...
But if I call from XT mobile to PSTN - ok
Vodafone mobile to XT mobile - ok
Vodafone to Vodafone - ok

Just XT to XT theres no DTMF

Can you smart guys confirm this.

Cheers

Is this actually causing an issue? ie are you finding an IVR application that doesn't work or merely observing the issue when you connect a call between two XT handsets?

DTMF tones aren't always carried inband.

Yes it does cause an issue when using mobility features of a PBX with a connected XT CTU.
All other networks, so far seem to work fine, just XT to XT

Does calling from a landline to the XT CTU work fine?

I've made mention of the issue to somebody who will be able to look into it.. I don't have 2 XT SIM's here myself to actually test it myself.

I had no end of problems with inbound dtmf when I was trying a vodafone at home box connected to my sipura ata for incoming calls to home - never figured out if it was asterisk, the sipura or the vodafone at home box and my interest in sorting it was used up before I got it resolved so it was back to all sip incoming.

But in my attempts at talking to VF about it I gained a lot of knowledge about how little they knew or cared about the VF@Home box. I get the impression its not something that is well supported over cellular with some questions I put to other people about it.

Would suck if you had one of those cameras that lets you steer it with dtmf over a video call and couldnt use it.

I have been told from a reliable source is that "They don't support DTMF because its a packet data network."

I'm confused as I can still do telephone banking, from XT mobile to PSTN.

This is what works:
XT to Vodafone - DTMF works in both directions.
XT to PSTN - DTMF works in both directions.

This is what doesn't work:
XT to XT - Nope, no & nah - no DTMF in any direction

what speed are you dialing at that you call working?

I had to extend tones to about 200ms to get them to pass to a device plugged into a VF@home box - which is well above the 50 that would normally work. That was on a real PSTN line. I had no luck from a voip line since that seems to pass a fixed length tone that is too short.

Never found any info anywhere about how and if it is properly supported, but from what I saw it was unworkable so we went back to using SMS notifications to trigger rather than an incoming call.

I am just doing simple testing from an XT mobile phone (Nokia, Phone etc) to IVR systems like banks etc.
Not sure about VF@home boxes.

The main issue here is that DTMF tones aren't necessarily carried inband (ie in the audio path) any longer. With mobile and VoIP that use codecs that are use compression DTMF tones can't be carried in the audio path as they would be garbled by the compression so they are carried as part of the signalling.

NealR is aware of the problem so you can't go any higher!

Yes, am aware of the problem and working on if/how/when it can be resolved. No promises :)
