Hi guys,

One month ago I joined Vodafone on a 24 month Nokia Lumia $90 plan.

Unfortunately, my work is relocating me to an area with very poor to no vodafone reception. The house provided has no reception.

Telecom has very good reception, so unfortunately I must change back.

I am thinking the termination fee will be very painful. Is there any way I can lesson my pain, perhaps with a letter from my employer explaining the situation, which is outside of my control?

As a side note, my original Lumia died for no reason after 3 weeks. They called it an out of box failure and replaced it with a 'new' Lumia, which was in quite poor condition, covered in scratches all over, and nicks around the charging area from a screwdriver or something, which I didn't notice until I was home and pulled it out of the box. Very frustrating for someone like me who keeps my phones mint for resale, and pretty poor on the part of Vodafone (or Nokia?).

Why didn't you get them to switch it with a proper new one initially?
Is there anything in the contract about coverage, where if you move to another location where they don't have coverage, they allow the contract to end?

Hi BerG

One month into a contract will be full ETCs, When contract was signed you lived in a good coverage area

Maybe you might need to speak to your employer about the ETCs, A letter from your employer does not change the contract,

If you are not happy with the handset after the OBF you should bring that up with the store and show them the issues so it can be sorted out,

Yeah, contracts can be a pain in the ass. If my company relocated me I'd say to them they need to pay the ETC's.

Otherwise ask a family member or friend to take over the contract (maybe for a discount?) - at least that way you wouldn't have to pay for all of it.

Your work should pay your ETF, it's them who are relocating you.

worst case, sell the lumia, you should get most of the ETF back.

I cannot say that I was in exactly the same circumstances but very similar coz the place I moved to has very poor reception and I only had 6 months left in my contract and I didnt see why I should pay the ETF (with a coverage issue) but there is no escaping it.. Unfortunately it comes under the conditions that we dont normally fully read..

The best remedy that someone suggested to me and that I am using now is as soon as you get home forward your calls to your landline number and when you leave home disable the forward calls. At first this takes getting used to but then it becomes a norm..

This way you dont miss out on any calls and just leave your phone in the area of the house which has best reception so that text messages can still come through..

Vodafone do have coverage in the Amazon. You just need to have the Jungle Drum add-on pack.
