Hi all, just registered but long time reader. I have slow broadband and I can't bare listening to my girlfriend complaining about it while she watches Shortland st on demand.

-I'm with Vodafone naked broadband, I live in akl city close to Vector arena in an apartment building.
-Chorus map says I'm in red zone 20Mbs+. I get 7600 Kbps down 864 up.
-There are 3 phone jacks in the apt, no telephones or filters. I only use a 1m phone cable to the router with same result from any of the outlets.
Here's a screenshot of my router speeds and connection type:

I called Vodafone about it and they said it should be faster they'll work on it. After few days they told me it's Chorus fault and they gave me a chorus number to call.
I called Chorus and the tech I spoke to was a very nice guy who told me it's not Chorus' fault but Vodafone. They probably didn't switch me over to ADSL2+.
I called Vodafone back and they told me it's my apartment.

Now, before I try to explain the situation to  the building manager or body corporate I would like to know the point of view of you guys in here.
My old thomson router said the connection was G.992.3 that corresponds with the speeds I'm getting.
Does this mean Vodafone is only giving me that speed or do I get that speed because of wiring issues?
SNR and Line Attenuation look quite good so I can't believe the fault is in the 10 year old apartment building...

Any ideas?

Vodafone should never tell you to ring Chorus.
Vodafone should be doing everything with Chorus for you. I would suggest it is most probably your feeder pair from the exchange/cabinet.
I doubt very much the internal wiring would be to blame in this situation.
But before they get a tech out to you just check your jackpoints and try a different line cord for your modem. Also, unplug any other devices like phones or sky decoder. Sky decoders are bad for causing problems.

Edit: *facepalm* just re-read your post. Is your modem set to "Multimode" or "G.992". Either the modem isn't negotiating properly or you port has been set to the wrong profile.

No rep at Vodafone should be advising you to call Chorus can you please DM me your Vodafone account number so this can be looked into tomorrow,

Are you testing over WIFI or LAN cable plugged into the modem?

Have you tried a another modem? I replaced my sisters Thomson modem a number of months back and speed doubled

You're syncing at effectively maximum ADSL1 speeds. Assuming your router fully supports ADSL2+, then you are probably only an ADSL1 port or profile.

I have moved this to the Vodafone forum, seeing this is a Vodafone issue.

Vodafone has been very unprofessional through all the story, I was surpised when they gave me the Chorus number as to say:"you call them I don't want to deal with this s... anymore"
The modem is set to Multimode. Won't connect if I set it to ADSL2+
At the moment it actually downgraded to G_lite 1500Kbps down!!!!

No Sky, no alarms, new modem properly setup.
Starting to really ppp put me off

Both LAN and WIFI. The speeds I'm quoting are off the modem.
I used to have an old "g" thomson modem, when I found out there was ADSL2+ in my area I called up Vodafone, they told me they would switch me to ADSL2+ so I went out and with a big smile a bought a new TPLINK 300Mbps "n" modem to use all the speed I could get. That was a waste of money because few days later the speed didn't change and the saga I wrote about before started.

Just a update Chorus came back to Vodafone ' Only ADSL1 is available on the address ' which was passed onto the customer,

You are too far from the exchange for ADSL2+ and it looks like no wholesale cabinets are between you and exchange, So you are limited to a ADSL1 profile

When you say chorus map says you're in red zone 20 Mbps, do you mean on the chorus web site?  Does it say something like "Broadband > 20 Mbps (with the right modem and plan)" then under that "Broadband > 10 Mbps"?

If so the 20 Mbps is I believe showing you that you can get VDSL, not indicating speeds you should get on ADSL.

Sorry just though it might be worth noting -  It sounds like you should be getting higher than you are getting, but I wouldn't expect > 20 Mbps on ADSL unless you're very close to exchange\cabinet and have a really good connection.

As above they are too far from exchange for a ADSL2+ profile as advised by Chorus

Sorry, yup, must have been typing when you posted that - that would explain it too.  Not much you can do if you're just too far.

Funny, because that's not what Chorus told me, and that's not what this map shows:

And with an attenuation so low (2-4 dB) and good SNR margin, I'd think the cabinet can't be so far. Is it that the cabinet is capable only of ADSL1 instead of me being too far from a ADSL2+?

Well it looks like I have to blame the government, the weather and the Greek gods for not being able to stream youtube at 720p in 2013 while living in the CBD of the biggest city in Nz.
Maybe I'd get faster broadband if I moved to Gore

My pick is a incorrect profile. You should be served off the AT/DF cabinet which is an ISAM and is VDSL2 capable.

If Vodafone don't want to do anything just move ISP's.

We are working off INFO from Chorus! The profile is set to ADSL1 on purpose by Chorus as they are advising they are too far from the serving exchange and can't connect to a cabinet

slowly I am reading the notes from Chorus not Vodafone
