I have just moved from Ihug to VFX HSI Flood.  I was getting about 800-900kbps with Ihug on an old 3.5mbps plan.  I was expecting to see a bit of a change on flood and I got a nice increase in upload speed to my router but download was still about 800-900kbps.  This was driving me insane but I didn't really want to bother Xnet to much with my issues as I was still operational.  I thought I had nothing except my modem attached to the phone ports in our house but after looking behind the TV for somthing I noticed the sky box had a RJ11 connection to the phone outlet.  I removed this and Bam the speed has shot up from 900 to 3700 down.  I restarted the router and then checked connection again and speed was still good.  I then replugged the skybox into the phone line and it slowed it right back to 900k again.  I will have a chat to sky in the morning to see what they say about this issue.  If anyone else is experiencing this issue it may pay to try removing the same cable then testing again.

Also want to say a massive thanks to VFX Wordxchange.  It's so nice to finally have a company that appears to be trying to make an effort for the customer rather than a big company that couldn't care less about the customer and is just trying to make a buck.  Your customer support is awesome, getting connected was impressively quick.  Ideas like only paying for data you use and recieving a discount regardless if you have tolls with them all reinforce a great attitude toward the customer.  As long as you keep up all the great work I will keep on recommending you to others.

Cheers.

I sounds like you have not installed an ADSL filter onto that jack point.

EDIT: As Grant17 stated below, it must have a filter. Have you made sure that all of the points you phyically use have filters? And if by adding a filter to this jack point will you exceed the "limit" of five filters?

Magikmoose: I will have a chat to sky in the morning to see what they say about this issue...

SKY won't have anything to say about this issue because it is your ADSL that is being adversely affected, rather than the Sky Decoder.

All of Sky's decoders/MySky etc have an analogue modem, thus are a POTS device the same as a standard phone or fax.  ALL POTS devices must have filters installed between them and the phone jack, or you are going to have problems like this.

I would just leave it unplugged as I would not need it.  The phone cable is for pay-per-view payments.  Not aware of anything else it is used for, there is nothing else that the sky box have to send back to Sky.  All other stuff including security code updates is sent over the air.

Every filter and every POTS device you add, adds complexity and a possibility of causing problems.  So if you don't use pay-per-view, then don't plug it in.

That will be the issue as it has no filter on it.  Thanks for you responses.  I will just unplug it.

5 mins after the sky guy left my house after installing the service I have had it unplugged from the the phone line, they have never called me and so far have never had any problems, I have had sky for a few years now and the only problem I have had is when they changed over to the new satelite and had to change the LNB, they also upgraded the sky decoder which was then unplugged again :)

This is quite a common problem we run into as most people will overlook or simply not be aware of the decoder plugged into the phone jack, gets even worse if they have multiple decoders in the house as well.
