I have noticed lately during the past 3 nights usually around 2100pm the Internet drops out.

I have gone into the Modem Stats and everything looks normal, I have a solid xDSL connection and the PPPoE connection is also solid with its IP address and DNS showing all connected and working.

I don't use Vodafone's default DNS as I currently use a subscription with UnoDNS. DNS is changed within the modem.
Would using a different DNS to the default one cause any significant issues with a loss of internet connectivity?

Any suggestions for this would be appreciated.

Hello... Our robot found some keywords in your post, so here is an automated reply with some important things to note regarding broadband speeds.

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

- you have reset your modem and router

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

- your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing

- you read this topic and follow the instructions there.

Make sure you provide information for other users to help you. If you have not already done it, please EDIT your post and add this now:

- Your ISP and plan

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- Your general location (or street)

- If you are rural or urban

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

I recommend you read these two blog posts:

- Is your premises phone wiring impacting your broadband performance? (very technical)

- Are you receiving a substandard ULL ADSL2+ connection from your ISP?

Hi nintcore try this post as there are DNS issues at the moment, country wide. I've been having DNS issues here at work for about a month now with the standard Vodafone DNS.

If you don't use the Vodafone DNS then this makes life difficult to narrow down the issue,

This is not impacting Vodafone NZ customers or any other ISP apart from TelecomNZ and Bigpipe

Depends, are you getting loss of connectivity, or loss of name resolution? The latter would be because of your DNS changes, the former would not.

I beg to differ as I use the Vodafone DNS and the issue cropped up for me again this morning. This issue keeps coming up at exactly the same time as everyone else here.

Thought that might be the case..
Just seemed a bit odd as nothing would work, even VPN or Skype...

I didn't try opening a site via IP at the time but I will definitely try if it goes offline again..

Confirming that there's some kind of connection problem at Vodafone... I've had several connection losses over the last couple of days. This was not DNS-related... the one time I logged into the modem to look, it didn't have an ADSL connection.

Treat this a single issue could even be part of planned work depending on the time

Okay so I have some dates and times from the past 3 days this has happened.
Also to add, I have been using the Default DNS servers for Vodafone for the past week and when I go to load a webpage via the IP or domain name nothing loads...

I have also run multiple traceroutes as well as pinging an IP such as google to which nothing loaded...

I have called the Help desk tonight and advised them on what was happening and they couldn't suggest a solution.. So back to Geekzone for this one..

Also I tried a connection to a VPN and funny enough it connected and I had internet!

So I'm as stuck as the guy at the help desk. Also I have isolated all devices on the network and it still occurs with both WIFI and Ethernet connections...
