Hello Everyone,
Long time reader, first time register/post!

I had Vodafone VDSL installed and setup yesterday, a day earlier than was scheduled (wahoo!). Previously we had realy good adsl speeds 18/2 Mbps, and moved to VDSL primarily to up the ante on upload. Since the install I can get an almost constant 20/2 Mbps, whilst I have VDSL Max Sync of 45/12 Mbps and attainable of 41/10 Mbps.

Here is my speed test results:

And here is the DSL Information from the HG659 that I'm using:

When the Chorus tech left he said that it was all working but still required 'commissioning', I did't quite get to the bottom of what this meant, or if its related to my woes, any ideas?

I've spoken to Voda Support on this as well, and they continued to tell me that it was all apart of DLM and I should just wait, but from my reading here DLM seems more likely to affect the sync rates (which I'm perfectly happy with as they are)

Any insight would be much appreciated

P.P.S. Speedtest results have been done with a mixture of 300Mbps Wifi and Gigabit Ethernet

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

- you have reset your modem and router

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

- your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing

- you read this topic and follow the instructions there.

Make sure you provide information for other users to help you. If you have not already done it, please EDIT your post and add this now:

- Your ISP and plan

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- Your general location (or street)

- If you are rural or urban

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

DM @TimA your account number and let him take a look and I take it you are not testing over WiFi but cable plugged direct into modem?

Hi.

Don't listen to the tech they blame birds falling out of the sky on DLM. This is due to a profile on our end. If the install happened early most likely is still to update it. Pm me account stuffs and I'll look later.

Pretty simple fault there..

your connection is working fine, your syncing great - dont reboot your modem, it will not fix the issue, till the issue on vodafones side is fixed.

This isnt DLMs fault at all, DLM should not be blamed for every time something with VDSL doesnt seem right with speeds.

call back vodafone again, make sure you clearly explain you are syncing at 41/10 but still limited to ADSL speeds.

i suspect, because it was a day early, vodafones system may not have correctly flagged your move to VDSL on their side.

if its not sorted after that, when TimA gets up im sure he will see your thread and set you right :)

A bit frustrating that this drops too 25/9 Mbps when on Wifi, but i see on a seperate thread that this is a whole other can of worms, will leave the downloading to the NAS!

wireless will never be assured. its a convenience feature.

if your talking torrents on a consumer nas, ild put that in the same category as wifi.

you upgraded to VDSL, when UFB was available?

UFB wasn't available at my address (Churton Park, Wellington) unfortunately (is at my Dads place). We do have a grey box with a TCL Cable in it, but I tried to get that setup when I moved in 12 months ago and after two weeks of trying with Vodafone Support I gave up, at one point someone literally told me 'Thats not cable internet, thats something called Coax', I politely explained that Coax was short for coaxial cable which is what the network ran on, and then submitted to getting ADSL as I needed a connection up to be able to work.

My NAS is a FreeNAS box I've built on a late model laptop, it was happily maxing out my ADSL connection with Torrents, so will be interesting to see what I can get that running now. Its pretty much just used to serve content to our TV as a Plex server. I've toyed with some other features (DNS/OwnCloud/VirtualBox) but not sure the value is really in it on a low performance device, gosh darn budgets getting in the way of building something impressive!

So just wanted to come back with a quick update, I'm super impressed with what I'm getting from Voda VDSL now, this was just done (which I'm picking is a pretty domestic traffic heavy time of day) and whats more done OVER WIFI!
Need to move some furniture to connect via cable, may need to do that a bit later.

Danielmac: I am pretty jealous of that Wifi speed. Have bragged about my line speed before (fastest I've had on the speedtest via Ethernet cable is 64 Mb/s down) but I've never managed anywhere near your Wifi speeds :(

You need pretty high spec WiFi card to get anything better than 30-40Mbp/s
Macbook pro 2014 vs Samsung S4 WiFi speeds vary a lot. Max line sync vs >20Mbp/s

be it, there is the occasional day that every other wireless AP in the area moves to my channel and speeds take a dive, but then thats time to just hop channels.

What we need is a router that can automatically change channel so that you get the best performance, it could be done only when no one is using the wifi. I imagine this product already exists.
