Hi guys, I've been having an issue with my rbi connection ever since I got connected.  I have no issues with speed or ping when it's working but every now and then it'll drop out. I won't be able to reconnect for anywhere from 5-15 seconds and if I'm playing online my ping will jump from 100 to around 6-7000 or more.  I know that wireless is not intended for gaming but I didnt think it was that bad.

I've tried many things and even got my huawei b3000 replaced but nothing has worked.  Is it just a wireless thing or is something actually wrong? Only thing I haven't done is change the sim card...

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

 


 

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

 



 

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

Check under Internet/Network Connection that Connection Mode is set to always on, not on demand. Other possibilities is cell site getting hammered occasionally, or if you're on Wi-Fi, change to LAN cable.

Are you located in Kawakawa? Site had planned work last week getting new hardware and 4G band 28 700Mhz added

No way it's SIM card related, This is only to ID the mobile subscriber onto the mobile network,

If you are gaming over WiFi then check for WiFi interference

Yep, connection mode is always on, aerial is set to external only and is set to 3g only as well.  I'm cabled to my router which is cabled to the aerial.  I think it might be a congested tower after reading the message that GrantK wrote me

No John I'm in Kinloch which is outside of Taupo.  I['m really hoping they upgrade to 4g soon, hopefully that'll help

I think, even though Vodafone say there is nothing wrong with the Kinloch tower, that it is perhaps a little overloaded and that is what is causing the dropouts.

Kinlock tower does have a lot of capacity: U900 U2100 & L1800. Do you have a wide band dual antenna setup?

Kinlock does have 4G on 1800Mhz then so when you have the correct RBI you will get 4G coverage (If close enough to site)

The dropouts Tweakk has described are almost identical to those I've been putting up with for the past 3 years.  During that time I've had 3 different models of router and two completely different antenna setups, yet the dropouts remain.  They get much worse during peak holiday season, but are always there to some extent, disrupting VoIP phone calls and Skype calls.  Online gaming is also affected as Tweakk says.

The cellsite I'm connected to is Kawakawa East, which has not yet been upgraded to 4G 700MHz AFAIK, although the main Kawakawa site has, as JohnR says above.  I'm pinning my hopes on 4G 700MHz as being the eventual solution to the dropout problem as everything else (router and antenna) has been changed several times already with minimal improvement.

Interestingly, a friend of mine in the local area, who is connected to the Opua cellsite does not experience any droputs at all, even though he uses the same 900MHz service, router and antenna that I do.  The only thing different is the cellsite, which leads me to believe it has to do with the loading of my site being heavier than his.

Does it?  We can't get 4g here though according to the coverage map??  If so then awesome but how can I access it for RBI?

As above you need an RBI unit that supports 4G and be in range of the site, 4G 1800Mhz has a smaller coverage foot print when compared to 4G 700Mhz and 3G 900Mhz
