Hello,

I am new here and found geekzone after searching / trying to find the correct settings for Xnet /PPPoA settings / modem settings / PAP2t settings ect. I tried calling the help desk/customer service , which they just told me that i had to talk to tech help and all they told me was to talk to the store I bought the modem from and get a new one.

I was hoping that I could get some technical help here, as they can't seem to help me over the phone and i seem to be having some major issues.

I was a Xnet Broadband customer with the Flood Plan and a data cap. Recently I changed to Fusion with the Torrent Usage Plan.

The first few days were excellent and everything worked fine , broadband/net/downloads at least.

But for the past few days it's been horrible , I can't download at night at all (during the off peak period). For the past four days or so it has downloaded nothing. The last night that it did work , it disconnected from 2.9M and reconnected at 512K , it seems now that I am grateful that it was connected at all.

Today it's been disconnected every hour or so , the PAP2t seems to constantly say 'Can't connect to login server. The only time it ever will is if I restart the modem ( Linksys AG300). Since the previous Monday only two calls have gotten through (other than when I asked someone to call to test the line) . If the modem disconnects the pap2t never seems to connect again, unless i restart the modem.

I had serched the forum to see if I could find any answers. I did find one post that i thought would be promising, but unfortunately the problems haven't gone away.

The post had said to find ALG on the modem and turn Sip (5060) off then forward ports 5060-5062 , 8060-8062 and 35384 - 37384 ... also to set the PPPoA settings on the modem to 'Keep Alive' instead of Connect on demand. So i did all of that , but nothing seemed to change.

Ever since I've swithed to Fusion , it seems like I don't have much service at all , the phone hardly ever works , unless i reboot the modem. And the longest I've seen the PAP2t connected for was at most 2 hours. I can't really seem to download much of anything anymore and even surfing the web today has been a bit difficult. I did try downloading something a few minutes ago , and it cut off after a minute of downloading.

Anyways, things have been a bit frustrating lately, and I am hoping that someone out there can shed some light on what the problem is. Any help would  be greatly appreciated :)

Thank You,
Chris

Try a different modem, perhaps borrowed from a friend.

Looks like DSL issues. Get that fixed, then your VFX on the PAP2T will be fine. As suggested you can try a different ADSL router, but get a fault logged anyway for your DSL dropping out often.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your replies. Last night I tried a different modem that i borrowed. It was a Speedtouch 660 ... or something similar , i can't remember exactly ... but i think that was it.

Anyways , everything seemed to work fine , i downloaded throughout the night and it was connected most of the night From ~9pm to about 5Am where it did disconnect but according to the logs it reconnected in about a minute , although at a lower speed : from 2.2M to abou 700k.

So all that seemed to work well , but i couldn't test the PAP2t , it wouldn't connect to the server and when i tried to access it from the computer it just wouldn't go there. Anyways I wasn't exactly sure how to configure this modem (Speedtouch) to open a range of ports , it was a bit different than what i am used to.

Now I am back on my AG300 ... and from what i was told the phone hasn't been up at all throughout the day ... and it's been a bit difficult for me just to reply to this ...

I am curious though , Does anyone else out there use a Linksys AG300? And if so , Do you have any issues with it and Xnet / VFX? or does it work just fine? Also if it does work for you , are there any settings I should know about to get it to work right?

Also , it does seem that the Dsl connection is up a good bit , it seems more that it cannot connect to the PPPoA server. Or at least that's what is says on the stats.

Just one more :) , Is it worth replacing the AG300 with another one , or would it be better to go with a different model/brand?

Thank You,
Chris

A Dynalink RTA1320 is a good option too, seems to stand up under most line conditions quite well. However, it doesn't matter what brand model of router you use, if there is a DSL issue, then you will still have varying degrees of issues.
Also worth checking out is a DrayTek Vigor 110 which is rumoured to be coming here soon:
