Hi,

My daughter is getting her first phone for her birthday this year.  Being a geeky dad I wanted to try and get her name as her number.  I phoned the number which isn't allocated.  I went in store to set up her account and they were unable to find the number (they said the system won't allow them to search for a specific number).  I now have a relatively memorable but unfortunately meaningless number.

Is there any further avenues you can go down to request a specific number?

Cheers

Martyn

@Martynnz The system 100% allows to search for a number but just cause you called the number and heard the number is not active does not mean it can be allocated

What are the first 3 numbers after 021?

The system has ranges

Postpaid
Prepaid
Fax
Data-fax

So the number might fall into a range that can not even be allocated for Voice

I looked after MSISDN allocation from the IT side for VodafoneNZ for about 10 years so know it well up to April 2017

Edit: The numbering allocation is very complex for VodafoneNZ due to different number lengths thru different ranges

Hi @Linux,

The first 3 digits are: 224.  It would end up being a 7 digit number after 021.

Cheers

The 021224xxxx if I remember correct is for Prepaid range only unless Prepay Flex is done to On-Account

Numbers can be changed from Prepay to Postpay prior to activation but you need to know someone on the IT side and someone that knows what they are doing

Can confirm 021 224 xxxx is in the Prepay range, so they would not have been able to allocate that.

On account numbers are 0215 through 0219 with some carve outs for other service types.

Current business rules for Prepay are that you can be offered a small range of prepay numbers in store (if they aren’t too busy) or online and choose from those.

@Martynnz If the number is in a ' Paired ' state this makes it more complex as the number is paired to a SIM card for Prepaid provisioning
