I am thinking about getting a Vodafone 5G broadband (as my cellphone plan is with Vodafone) but I do want to have a public IP (not necessarily static**) so that my NAS can be accessed from Internet. May I know if we get public IP when using Vodafone's 5G broadband please? thanks.

**Synology DS does have DDNS support so non-static IP should be all good.

Hi there

Unfortunately the consumer 5G broadband plans do not get a public facing IP.

Business ones do however upon request.

As an alternative, would something like Tailscale or Cloudflare Argo Tunnels work for your use case? As far as I know there shouldn’t be any issue running those behind CG-NAT.

I use both Tailscale and Cloudflare tunnel to access my Synology NAS, without having to worry about IP, port forward, etc. And it's a lot safer.

For Cloudflare tunnel I installed the cloudflared Docker image and configured the tunnel token as needed:

When using Cloudflare tunnel you have to reserve the subnet where your NAS in the tunnel configuration:

Whenever you use Cloudflare WARP client you will have access to your NAS via its LAN IP address or a name if you map it via a DNS A record.

90% sure this is a no as well as you get handed the same IPs as our mobile network. Unsure if this is different if a static IP is set. This I can find out if needed.

edit damn linux beat me, yeah we dont do ipv6 yet on mobile

no I cannot tell you when or if

Thank you very much. I will try Tailscale and/or Cloudflare tunnel and see how it goes.

The same discounts apply. As far as i know you don't have to have a business for that product. Just ask for that as you need the static and the general consumer version isnt suitable
