I am on HighSpeed 10G. The next plan, LightSpeed 20G is $25 more. If I already exceed my monthly usage by 5 blocks ($2.95*5=$14.75) and then change from HighSpeed to LightSpeed, do the extra data blocks go towards the 25GB (and only get charged the $25 upgrade) or what?

TCL still charges $25 more (than the HighSpeed 10G) if you are on LightSpeed 20G and only use <10GB so I would have to downgrade manually, correct? No data stacking or automatic discounts.

I'm not sure about the first part of your question, in relation to whether you'd be charged for the overused data PLUS $25 upgrade, though you will only get charged a pro-rate amount of the $25 based on where you are in your billing cycle.

With regards to the second part, yes, you will have to downgrade manually, which you can do on a month by month basis if you think you're going to use heaps one month and less the next.

Telstra rung me to advise me that I had been going over my data limit by quite a lot each month and maybe I would be better off going to the 20Gb plan. Of course, I keep a close eye on my use and in fact in the 4 months I've been with them I've used 0Gb, 7Gb, 1Gb and 8Gb over. I find it's better to pay for what I use, if I was regularly using 9+Gb more a month I would switch, but if I'm using 8 ($24) or less then I'm better off just staying put and paying for however much I want to use, I can stop downloading at any time if I don't want a bigger bill.

The person who rang me also tried to fool me into thinking my billing period still had a couple of weeks to go, but when I asked for a precise date (knowing what it was already!) she was forced to say 'oh, that's only 6 days away'. I rewarded them by cancelling television and phoneline services the next week, more than halving my bill :D

Your overusage stands and you will have to pay that regardless of whether you upgrade to another plan.
