It's currently 10:40pm and hasn't updated all day, but is at 1.39GB from a peak at 5AM when nobody was awake to use it. The day before (the last day of the billing period) shows 0MBs used. So it looks like the usage from last billing period has been placed in this month's billing period. Now in this instance that is a good thing because I went 12 blocks ($2.95/block = $35.40).
What would have been ideal is: Halfway through the billing period (when I hit 100%), I could purchase an extra 20G (which is the next plan up; $14 more) just for that month. I could have called TCL and had my plan changed to the 40GB plan (from 20GB) which would have given me 40GB for the remaining half of the billing period which brings that to a total of 40+20=60GB total purchased in that month. What TCL then does is takes the more expensive plan ($69.05) then subtracts the cheaper plan ($55.95) and adds that total ($14) to the next bill, because the current month has already been paid in advance. The problem with this now is that the next billing period will be paid in advance as the 40G plan when all I want is a temporary upgrade to the next plan for the remaining days of that month! Confusing.
With the usage meter being so unreliable, it's a guessing game on how close I am to that 1G block unless I install a bandwidth monitor at the modem. It would be good to rent a device that I could connect between my modem and router to see how bandwidth compares with what TCL reports, and if data is transferred when the modem is off in particular.
I wish getting a fair deal for my bandwidth was easier than this.
