HI I got a TP link deco x80-5g off trade me hoping to use it with my RBI but I can't seem to get it to work, in the past I have upgraded buy just sticking my RBI sim in a newer spark or One/ Vodafone/ Skinny etc... supplied modem and it worked.

I know the RBI service uses TAC locked sims but being a One/ Vodafone supplied modem it would work with their RBI service, but I could not get it to work.

Am I correct in my assumption that it is or have I possibly mis-configured a setting or is it a locked out via the sim TAC lock?

Did you make any progress on this? I'm considering exploring the same thing

Sorry I never managed to cert it to work; I did however start looking at porting it to OpenWrt one could then likely rewrite the IMEI number as hat is likely the issue.

I have made myself a purpose built Wallystech dr4029 and put in a Quectel modem and edited the IMEI number to be that the same as my Huawei modem to get around this issue.
I created my own repo before DSA support was added to mainline.

The Quectel Modem is a lower cat number than the Huawei modem but its significantly faster especially in upload and with all the benefits of OpenWrt I'm now really happy with my setup.

professor-jonny/pj_openwrt: This repository is designed to support the wallystech DR40x9 Routerboard with DSA in mind. (github.com)

Depending on who your RBI provider is, i.e. whether it's Vodafone directly or a reseller, you may be able to get an unlocked SIM. E.G.

A couple of providers who can do unlocked SIM on request.

Sadly, skinny broadband doesn't offer this.

I don't know why it is not a technically a rural broadband product you would think they would allow BYO modem.
