Hi All,

I have a number of customers that are running on ageing analogue phone systems that are looking at upgrading to take advantage of voip/sip services to increase productivity and reduce communications costs however in most cases these customers do not want to invest in on premise IP PBX hardware and would prefer a “hosted” offering were they can simply purchase ip desk phones, POE switches, QOS router etc and connect these to a hosted pbx provider.

Most of these customers have branch or satellite offices and want to be able to transfer calls between extensions in various locations without the complexity of having to implement or manage vpn/wan/mpls connections back to an on premise phone system at head office.

The other key requirement for most customers is the ability to have some basic form of UC function to enable things like Click-To-Dial from Outlook, Click-To-Transfer Calls, Voicemail-To-Email and basic presence info for users regardless of their physical location.

I would really appreciate some guidance on providers that are offering this service in New Zealand and most importantly what their service/call quality is like and what their support is like is these will represent key business drivers over a “low-cost” offering.

Many thanks in advance.

The providers I have come across are kiwilink and WxC. TBH if WxC's device provisioning for their hosted PBX is anything like VFX, I would definitely recommend them as deployment will be super easy.

Judging by the fact that website is hosted in the US, I wouldn't want to look @ using a hosted service that is based outside of NZ. Especially for VOIP.

TelstraClear can do this for you, and it's NZ based. It's called IP Gateway - http://www.telstraclear.co.nz/business/products/phone/next-ip/ip-gateway.cfm

I know because I built the darn thing.

Thanks Ak,

I spoke with Telstra and they advised that this product can only be delivered over fibre at present which makes it competitive for the head office but becomes unviable when small branch or satellite offices are involved with only 2 or 3 phones per location.

Is this your understanding or did the sales person get this wrong?

Thanks Zeon,

What is WxC customer support like. I have had a few customers use their SIP services a while back but left due to very poor service/support.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Depends who you talk to :) My dealings with them in the past have been brilliant.

I don't think WxC offer a hosted PBX solution, though I'm sure maverick or joshp can confirm.

Sorry we do not offer a Hosted PBx solution, I would have said try Telstra's IP gateway as this is what they offer, but i see it's been covered.

Hitech solutions may be another option.

As for the very poor support/service comment... I am pretty sure no one has a better SIP support than us... but everyone has their opinions I guess.

Yes I am a employee of WxC (My Profile) ... but I do have my own opinions as well Wink

their website is hosted in the US mainly because their sister company - WinScribe - has 80% of its traffic in the US.  The company is NZ based (Takapuna) and i'm sure their hosted IP PBX will all be NZ based too....

dont make silly assumptions based on where a website is located..

Does anyone have any experience using the hosted/managed office communicator service from MHA?

the MHA product is actually Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 with an Orcon SIP trunk. Being an internal OCS user I can say that its a good product and only getting better with the new release of "Lync" server.

Hi Matthew,

One of these options might work for you if you want a hosted IP PBX or Centerx type system:
