I have recently (due to Windows upgrades) had problems with using USB-connected devices on my ASUS F541U laptop.
Whenever I add a USB stick (not all - some aren't affected) it is not recognised by the computer. Device Manager shows them as an "Unknown Device". I can Browse my computer for drivers > Let me pick from a list ... >and it shows a single driver - install this and all is well. If I insert another USB stick (using the same driver - Microsoft 10.0.18362.1) , or remove the first and re-insert it, the same thing occurs. This also happens with an XYZ 3D printer, and a Canon EOS1100D camera, so is not confined to USB sticks.
The Properties window shows a status "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)". There are a lot of mentions of this error on-line, and a lot of proposed solutions - I have tried the most feasible of these but they make no difference.
Anyone else had this problem with recent updates? or is it time for a clean reinstall?
