Hi There!

Wondering if any of you have recently purchased a new Vacuum cleaner and could make any recommendations?

We have had 2 Wertheim and I won't buy another. They are exceedingly fragile, many parts have broken and there seems to be a never ending list of reasons why it wouldn't be covered.

We have pets (German Shepherd, stairs, tiled areas and long pile carpet (Not massively just longer than normal).

Dyson seem to review well.

Something light and manoeuvrable would be good. We really rate the power heads and also the bag less bypass.

One answer, Miele cat and dog, have one and it is robust and reliable.

These ones with the power head do seem to work ok initially, but they are very fragile, so you have to treat them very well.

Hate buying bags for them but this is true for any vacuum. I think it is a bit like inkjet printers..... They make all their money on the consumables!

Yes the bags are the only negative. I used to buy them off trademe, but now they are cheaper to buy directly from the store. You can buy generic brands of bag but they may void the warranty on the machine. The old machines like telus used to have a reusable bag, but I guess they saw a way to also get an ongoing cashflow,. At least they aren't as expensive as inkjet printer ink, they work out at about $5 per bag.

Sebo is a brand that seems to be mentioned a lot these days, anyone here with one?
Apparently powerheads are last years thing and power brushes are all the rage!

Throwing in my 2 cents - bought a Dyson in 2008 - still going strong... no loss of suction whatsoever.. I think the model was DC35 or something. no regrets..

If you can afford it, have a look at the Karcher CV prof series. We have an older (probably 10 years or more CW50 Karcher) and I wouldnt go back to a standard trailing cleaner again. You may be able to get a demo unit from a Karcher supplier. We have 2 x German Shepherds and it eats dog hair.

we just bought one of these and they are excellent , we paid $145 for it and that seems to be a popular price for them , seen them at Bunnings and a few other places . They are well built and work really well. they also sell the pet one which is much the same but black.

Aren't they the same thing? Although one type is powered by the suction, and the other is powered by a motor, but they both have brushs in the head. My brother has one with a powered head which has a motor, and it seems to take in a lot of fluff off the carpet, so may wear out the carpet quicker.

We bought a dyson - probably similar model and time... But since then we've had to replace the contact head and the motor.

One thing to do is look at the build quality, and how long do you want it to last for? Some of the cheap ones have all sorts of burs in the fittings in the plastic fittings which trap dirt and they get blocked. Also the fitting and connectors break after a short period of time. It is a case of getting what you pay for with vacuums, although some of the poorer quality ones seem to be some of the most expensive, as they have gimmicks.

lol how true! we have a wertheim powerhead ... it is too fragile for anyone to use, and too cumbersome to move around. in the end everyone uses the electrolux 18V slim stick
