I have been a reader of geekzone for quite a while now. This experience with ihug deserves sharing.

Fot the last 3 months now my monthly invoice has shown land to mobile calls that were not connected. My partner calls me  and hangs up after 2 rings and i have to call back when i am at work. Since christmas i noticed that my bills suddenly increased all due to lots of 1min land to mobile calls. After querying each time i have got most of the money back. They reckoned it was a glitch in the software but it seems like it could be an expensive glitch for a lot of customers.

Just a warning to all ihug customers to check the phone element of there bill.

I had similar experience with Telecom about 2 years ago, where I called my mobile ph. to test something, didn't
answer but when I got my bill from Telecom  I got charged, rang them and was told to ignore the charge.

Just goes to show you have to check your bills....

This got quite a bit of news coverage about a year ago when someone was complaining that they were getting charged big bills for international calls to Aus and the US that were not connected.

Telecom came back and said that there was a glitch in the way their exchange software talked to the international one and was unable to tell if the call was connected or not.

I remember that I controlled a few computers for a cafe that provided internet access. It was in Wairoa that didnt have DSL at the time and so the cafe server would call the owners homeline in napier, then hangup. The napier server would call back and make a 56k connection, then re-route the internet data through to the jetstream connecton in napier. It saved huge 4c/min bills for the cafe, and was in theory virtually free because the wairoa - napier calls were never connected and they had the 'favourite place' $20 per month unlimited calling for the server back to wairoa.

I told the cafe owner to check their phone bills shortly after hearing of the problem and she found that they were getting about 3 one minute calls a day charged for the server calling napier that were not connected, and it was also happening with her cellphone.
