Hi all,
I'm currently on Telecom broadband and use my broadband connection mostly for gaming. I live in Hataitai, Wellington and TelstraClear isn't available where I currently live. I've had heaps of issues with Telecom and my DSL quality has been steadily decreasing. Web browsing, email and file downloads are fine but in gaming the latency is appalling. Ping times are bad but playable (about 400-600ms pings to the Guild Wars servers in West Coast US) but the worst part is intermittent disconnects and bursty behaviour.
The reason I'm posting is that I'm moving to Petone, Lower Hutt and I'm wondering if I should keep Telecoms 10GB max/128 Adventure plan or switch to to TelstraClears 10GB 4Mb/2Mb plan.
Questions:
-I got the impression TelstraClear had micro-disconnect problems. Is that still a problem? (if it ever was)
-Which is likely to have better ping times?
-Which is likely to be a more reliable (i.e non-bursty) connection
-Can either be optimised for gaming? e.g turn off interleaving? get plans specific to gaming?
Help would be appreciated as I don't have any gaming frinds on TelstraClear in my area so I have no idea what it would be like. I don't want to go from bad to worse if I can help it.
Cheers
